At that time, it was already known the 7950x3d limited to the one CCD with the 3D cache was identical to the 7800x3d on paper when gaming. Identical core count, nearly identical boost speeds on the V cache CCD, and same amount of V cache. That made it pretty easy to make a well educated guess how the two would compare prior to the 7800x3d release. All the tech reviewers were saying that if you were interested in it for gaming, that you should wait due to similar performance and the known lower price of the 7800x3d, then decide once the real comparisons could be made.

And after the 7800x3d came out, it was quickly clear the predictions were right (not to mention all the scheduling problems and such with the 7950x3d causing tons of headaches).

I should say you’ll be plenty pleased with those goodies. Enjoy.

Try taking a look at your USB setup. How are they arranged between the controllers and are the ports set to put them to sleep to save power? Are you using powered hubs and if so, are there devices plugged into the powered hub that should be straight into the mobo?

I’ve just had a big breakthrough with this. I reckon it’s worth isolating devices and their inputs and seeing if there is something going wrong there.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, powered hubs and the peripherals are set not to sleep. Spad.next sends a reminder if this changes and resets them. The only troublesome USB device I have is an xbox controller that needs to be reinserted every time I start the PC.

I’m assuming this is once with a fully detachable cable from the controller as well, with a micro-USB cable? If it’s old and well used, I wonder if the cable itself is bad. I hate how prone to breakage those cables are.

No, it’s a fully wired one.

@kido007dz Apologies, because of my posts the thread is veering away from the topic and into troubleshooting my setup. It’s obvious my problems could come from any number of interactions between the sim, my hardware and software. Would you like me to ask a mod to move them to a different thread?

Yes, for gaming, the performance along with a list price of $250 cheaper made the 7800x3d a winner. However, my point was the example article used to show the 7800x3d benefits based upon theory was not a good choice.

Will GPU prices drop in 2024?

Multinational mega-corporations don’t have a habit of cutting prices, so I’d say not.

@AwesomeAnything
Announcement @ CES on Jan 8 2024

Could be $200 drop with a revision version to boot. Prices are not confirmed until Nvidia makes up their mind. This is usually as late as possible.

What is the Best Nvidia GPU to buy with the ryzen 7 7800X3D to be able to run the game at ultra 1080p-1440p with least stutters?

That’s fine, you were sharing your real life experience with 7800X3D performance.

Re the best GPU to be mated with 7800X3D:
IMHO MSFS2020 needs ample RAM today, and MSFS2024 will not change that.

The Super line of Nvidia GPUs is expected to be released starting in January. The existing products may see a price drop, as a result of the new GPUs featuring more RAM hitting the stores.

IMHO best is to shoot for max GPU RAM for your budget, ideally 16GB at a minimum, to enjoy MSFS long term alongside 7800X3D.

Is it a good idea to change from 5800x3d to 7800x3d? In some benchmarks it indicates that there is a 30% improvement, is this true? What do you recommend?

Regarding the expected performance increase in MSFS2020, you will find some numbers here.
However I would say it would depend on the way the sim is used (resolution, add ons, BIOS / OS / Sim settings, memory type, etc).

AMD just announced their Ryzen 9000 CPUs and new X870 chipset and motherboards are on their way to retail stores.
On the other hand, we are hoping some clarification on MSFS 2024 release date and HW requirements will be made available by the end of this month.

Therefore, I recommend to wait until the new boards are available for purchase, and MS/Asobo speak at these events before spending money on HW.

So curious. I just got back my re-build with the 7800x3d and a rtx 4080 super. What kind of fps should I expect in VR at the resolution of the Pimax Crystal? I have no idea if this is running as it should or not. Thanks, LouP

It completely depends on where you fly, what you fly, how you fly and at what settings.

Without guarantee and just FYI/orientation:
no access to my computer (7800x3d, 7800XT - both OC) but:
My quest 3 works fine > 80 Hz, locked 40 fpx, resolution (supersampling something xxxx X 3056? pixels)
Reach in 95% my locked 40fps.
MSFS medium settings, max. high settings for clouds and texture resolution.

I think your PC should handle the P. Crystal on a very “good way”.

Thank you. I’m just going stop worrying about it and enjoy it. I’m getting 40 fps with most settings on high and a few on ultra. The reason I thought there might be a problem was because I see people online bragging how they have all their settings maxed out and getting 80 fps. I don’t know how they’re doing it but I’m going to stop looking over at the Jones and enjoy what I got. LouP

Just wanted to clarify that according to press sources and following Computex PR activities, we now have a better idea of the release schedule for next gen AMD Chips and boards:

  • Non 3D Ryzen 9000 chips should start showing up in stores sometime in July

  • The new line of AM5 motherboards (X870(E)) will be available after the chips start shipping, around August/September.
Among the improvements: USB4 all around and support for increased memory clocks.

  • official release date of 3D Vcache versions of Ryzen 9000 is unknown. At the moment an announcement is expected at CES 2025 next January, unless they are forced to accelerate the release, after the GA of the new boards sometime next fall, it will depend on the commercial success of the current breed of AMD CPUs as well as Intel Arrow Lake schedule and performance.
However, it would appear it’s not just a new iteration of previous 3D Vcache chips, AMD reps are insisting they will bring significant improvements.
