9800x3d latest driver

Hi everyone. After some help Ive checked for updates via amd software Adrenalin edition and it says current version 24.12.1 up to date

But when I check online it says release date 2024/12/05 but doesn’t have a version number

The version number on my device manger is 32.0.12033.1030

Is this the latest driver for the 9800x3d?

There is an “optional” Adrenalin driver v25.1.1 that was released a few days ago however v24.12.1 is stil on AMD’s web site. Use this link to access the v25.1.1 release notes and review the changes. If you want to update there is a link in the release notes to the v25.1.1 driver.

Thank you so much

Um, aren’t Adrenalin drivers for AMD GPUs, not for CPUs? Not sure what the reference to 9800X3D is for?

Yeah, 2 separate things.

There are chipset drivers which are specific to your motherboard, and should be regularly updated - especially if you change your CPU. There was also a BIOS update for certain motherboards specific to Ryzen 9xxx CPU’s.

But Adrenalin drivers? Never heard about those being for CPU’s. I have an nVidia GPU, and I’ve never installed any Adrenalin drivers for my Ryzen 7950X3D.

There are also apu drivers, 9800x3d has integrated gpu, and those are separated drivers. Not sure if really need them if you got an actual gpu

Interestingly, just went to AMD site and selecting the 9800x3d drivers I get the adrenalin download page. I don’t get that for my 5800x3d…

https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/processors/ryzen/ryzen-9000-series/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d.html

Thanks for that info!
So if you have an nVidia or Intel GPU card and don’t use the APU, you wouldn’t need the Adrenalin driver, but if, like some people, you use the motherboard’s video out connector, you would.

Good to know.

That’s correct. Not sure about the motherboard hdmi, i think windows should have those drivers auto installed, but it’s good to have a backup driver in case something fails or you don’t have access to the internet

Hmmm. How does the 9800X3D output video if not through the motherboard HDMI out?

Or am I misunderstanding how an APU works?

You could be right I’m quite new to this sort of stuff

i meant that windows install drivers for the video and you might not need apu drivers, you still plug in via hdmi

Some 870e motherboards for 9800x3d have both HDMI and USB4 ports. The latter can deliver displayport graphics. In any case, the video output is dependent on the MB capabilities.

Apologies if I caused any confusion. AMD Adrenalin gpu drivers are for AMD discreet graphics cards AND for AMD’s integrated CPU graphics (such as for the 9800x3d). While I don’t use the integrated graphics in my 7900x3d, my motherboard vendor provides Adrenalin drivers for it. Does Windows have a generic driver for the integrated graphics - I would think yes they do.

In addition, AMD has chipset drivers to support their cpu’s that need to be installed that are motherboard type specific (e.g. x670e) and can also be found on the AMD support website.

So-called Adrenalin drivers are for GPUs. It seems like you’re not using a GPU from your CPU, am I right?

For CPU you need a different driver. In the case of your Ryzen 7 9800X3D, it will be a chipset driver, which you can find on AMD website.

It’s possible that a newer version is available on your motherboard manufacturer’s website.

In any case, on the AMD website, go to the drivers section, select “Chipset” then “AM5” and there you’ll find the chipset for your motherboard.

If you have a motherboard based on the X670E chipset, you should select that one and if it’s based on the X870E chipset, then choose that one.

I actually have the msi mpg 870e carbon mother board with the 9800x3d chip that a new update is out for so I need to work how to update that as I’ve never done it being new to the pc world.

So in future do I just check the amd website for the 9800x3d drivers etc which atm is only showing the adrelian software for some reason ?

I also have MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI.
Latest chipset driver is available on the MSI website, so download and install that driver.

Also update BIOS.

Would it matter what order I do it in ?

1 Update BIOS
2 Install latest chipset driver.
