Here’s how it is:
In the [to be written] annals of the history of the development of the flight simulator, August 18, 2020 will become known as MSFS day. This, of course means that, said history, will be divided into two periods: BAM as in Before Asobo/Microsoft and A2M as in [yes you’ve guessed it] After Asobo/Microsoft.
The consequences of all this are profound and far reaching.
Just as the horse drawn carriage was replaced by the internal combustion engine.
Or a great weight of books by the Kindle.
Or [last one] religion - eventually - being supplanted by rationalism and science.
At A2M +16 [days] without doubt All other flight sims are now dead in the water [or if you prefer, dead on the apron].
Further, I think the community should declare 18th August a Flight day holiday [similar to a bank holiday but more exclusive] and every year we can all participate in a mass communal flight that ends with the consumption of much beer and cake.
The future is is indeed bright. But it’s not orange, it’s sky blue.

Not sure I follow your logic completely. If anything, A2M is the date when Asobo and Microsoft got crucified.
Crucified by some perhaps.
But lauded by many.

My story is with Microsoft & Xbox Store.
I paid £1 for Xbox Game Pass to download MSFS 2020 Std Edn as a part of the Game Pass subscription.
All was good until yesterday’s upgrade.
A notice told me it was not possible to upgrade my installation because it wasn’t a ( FULL PRICE ) commercial copy.
So I paid £80 for the Deluxe Edition.
I downloaded and then MS Store informed me I needed a 25 digit key.
Where was this key?
Checked my email for two hours.
Went to MS Store and saw a refund is available on software downloads that don’t operate within the first 24 hours.
Applied for a refund.
PayPal credited this morning.
Next step.
Rename existing MSFS folder and go to Steam.
I’ll get back with my report on how it goes.
Cheers.
Arrrgh! A horror story, for sure.
Can I ask, do you mean upgrade or update?
I too went the same £1.00 Xbox subscription way - that being the cheapest way to trial the sim.
But when the update became available yesterday I was able to update via the Microsoft store without a problem.
Whatever, I hope you get a resolution that you’re happy with.
Let us know how it pans out.
Good luck.
