I have massive problems flying the Comanche in 2024.
First of all, I recently bought the Comanche, after installation into a faked 2020 folder (via Orbx), I copied it into 2024, including the latest hotfix for 2024. So far so good, I can start the plane and it works.
But as soon as I push the throttle for take off the plane will start drifting like a madman to the right. So much that I have to brutally counter with the rudder, causing a drifting from left to right and back on the runway. When i somehow manage to take off (a take off nobody would ever want in real life) I get the same issues when airborne. I need to trim the rudder between 7-10 degress in order to somehow keep the plane somewhat level.
On final when approaching the threshold, things are getting chaotic again like on take off.
All that with the rudder trimmed the the left between 7-10 degrees. If I keep it at neutral the plane is basically not steerable, leading into a crash landing.
I am starting to wonder if something is not right with the plane. I never had such issues with any plane in MSFS2024. There are some planes that are not that easy, like the Kodiak 100, but i take-off and butter land them all the time.
Any advice or hints on what could be going wrong here would be greatly appreachiated.
I watched a log of YT videos after that, trying to find something I would do wrong, but I can’t find anything. I never saw any video where someone would even mention the rudder trim. There is no way that I have to trim it like that in order to somehow being able to fly it.
Another frustrating thing is the completely broken replay function with the Comanche in 2024. It just forgets the complete setup as soon as you replay your recording. I never experienced something like that with any plane in 2024. If you hold short after leaving the runway and then hit replay, your setup stays the same as if you are still on hold short.
I use the replay function all the time with all my fav planes (Kodiak 100, DA40) to analyzse my take-offs and landings.
The third thing is a massive imbalance between cockpit and external view sound volume. As soon as you switch to external view when airborne the prop sounds are not even half the volume of the engine sounds in cockpit view.
I can see the quality of the add-on, and in some moments I get the idea of a great product, but I am very frustrated after paying 52 EUR and not being able to fly it properly and also having the other issues.

Good to see you’ve done some research to see if anyone else has the issue.
Have a look at the FS2024 equivalent of the FS2020 “In Game Settings”.
In Game SETTINGS
Realism:
Flight model sliders - FULL RIGHT
Enable Auto-mixture - OFF
Auto-rudder - OFF
Engine stress damages engine - OFF
Graphics:
Advanced Animations - ON
Controls:
Sensitivities (all controllers) - FULL RIGHT

As you are already aware the A2A Comanche isn’t officially compatible with FS2024 yet! So, we can’t expect everything to work…
Check out the A2A Forum FAQ for possible solutions to these issues.
It’s a great product and they are dedicated to providing excellent customer support. I suggest you go to their Forum and submit a request for assistance. There’s also their Discord server if that’s your preference.
Have you checked flap conditions? May be one stuck? I had this. I’ve flown the Comanche in FS2024 many many miles so I’d say it works very well in this version of the SIM.
I sure do inspect the airframe and engine conditions all the time to count out any regular failures/damages.
When airborne with elevator trimmed out and in cruise, the plane starts slipping/spiraling to the right and will crash if I don’t significantly trim the rudder betwenn 7-10 degrees or steer left. Doesn’t matter into which direction I am flying.
So I spent a couple of hours today to figure it all out…
First of all, the simulation is in a league of its own, but that won’t be anything new to anyone.
I did the following:
replaced windows 11 drivers by installing the native drivers of the control
recalibrated the control in MSFS2024
reduced the turbulence impact from default 50% to 30%. At 50%, some harmless 7 knots of crosswind would simply blow me off the runway and throw my off my heading way too much, so much that it seems highly unrealsitic to me
reduced the trimming accleration
activated headphone mode which evens out cockpit and external sound volumes perfectly
It is mind blowing how many settings A2A offers for tweaking this plane simulation.
After all of that I had a stunning flight based at LSZL (Locarno) around Lago Maggiore and the swiss/italian alpes, cruising at 8000 ft.
Take off, 1000 ft initial climb, cruise climb, lean cruise, autopilot in heading, SL and track mode, descent, landing. All of that was working great while the engine wasn’t get any harm.
I also found some workaround to make replay more enjoyable with that plane.
I have to say this plane really is something else. I actually have to really work on it, which is great and feels real.
Something still doesn’t sound right. I’ve never had to make any of those adjustments for it to work as perfectly as it does in 2020.
My worry is that even though you now seem to have got it to somewhat behave, it still won’t be performing as it should and as you are new to it, you won’t have that comparison to draw from and you’ll be missing out on its subtleties.
If I was you, I would definitely look further into (via their forum or Discord).
I did a reinstall (SIM and Comanche) now.
Part of the problem might also have been a skill issue since I was not familiar with that plane and only had a handful of landings/flights with it. Also, the fact that the level of simulation is quite deep might have demanded more accuracy of the pilot
Still, the impact of crosswinds/turbulence seemed a bit too much in my opinion.
But I also have to say that using the Z axis of a flight stick for rudder really is far from optimal especially during landings. It is nearly impossible to give rudder w/o any change on the X and Y axis. I am seriously considering getting pedals now to eliminate such unrealsitic plane handling scenario. It really blocks progress in becoming a better (and closer to reality) pilot.
Just to give a quick and final update, everything is working perfectly now.
This is all just mindblowing, I never expected such level of options for tweaking, customization, maintenance, monitoring. And the flying itself, the feel, so awesome!
As soon as their Aerostar is reaching final release status, it will probably be the hottest contender for my next purchase.
So I got me some great rudder pedals now and boy does it make a difference.
From the first flight on I could finally control my plane(s) properly. If only I had dumped the Z axis of my flight stick earlier…
