So conversely, should you wait three minutes after engine start to turn off the APU bleeds?
Also, since we are talking RL ops, is it standard to always have runway turnoff lights on when taxing and on approach? or just based on lighting conditions?
Does the Fenix sim have a “pause at TOD” feature like the PMDG products? Or if not, has it ever been discussed? Having just had a couple of flights ruined because real life got in the way of my simming, I think this would be a very helpful option to have.
Last question of the AM - has Fenix put out anything about how to migrate this over to FS2024? Is it going to require an update and new installation or is it something as simple as just copying the folders over to the new sim? OT but has anything been put out by Microsoft about how easy (or hard) it will be to move your third-party airports into the new sim? Truly hoping my hundred or so airports and scenery produts aren’t all going to need to be patched before they will work with the new sim.

I expect for Fenix it’ll be as simple as copying the community directory entries across. And I’m sure it won’t be more than a few days before the Fenix installer gets a button for 2024 installation.
Arming that, in the MCDU, has become one of my after-take-off checklist items, as even if not AFK, you can always just unpause it. Life does have a way of getting in the way of the important stuff. ![]()
Three minutes after APU gets running (when you get APU avail message), not engines. You shouldn’t be even able to start the engines without the APU bleed.
And yes, most airlines’ SOP has Turn off and taxi lights on when taxiing, take-off and approach. However taxi lights should be moved to TO mode when lining up for a take-off and during approach. Both switches are turned off after the initial climb (together with disarming the speedbrakes).
Maybe I didn’t make my post clear. In the same way that you need to run the APU for 3 minutes before turning on bleeds to purge fumes, I was just wondering if the engines need to be run for a similar amount of time before shutting off the APU, so any fumes in their bleed system can be purged before you shut down the APU. Or once the engines are started, do they immediately start feeding the packs, even if the APU is running with bleeds on?
I’m not type rated but my understanding in that as long as the APU is operating with its bleed air on then it will be supplying the cabin packs and the engine bleeds are automatically kept closed.
This can also be used during takeoff if performance limits are tight and you don’t want to turn the packs off, if you leave the APU and it’s bleed air on this will avoid taking power from the engines via the bleed air, thus giving you maximum performance for acceleration.

So again though, once you have started the engines, can you immediately shut off the APU or do you need to wait three minutes?
It’s normal to shut the APU off as soon as the second engine is available. There’s no delay restriction on use of the engine bleeds for the packs. In fact the 3 minute restriction on the APU feeding the packs is operator specific, not all operators have that in their SOP.

Have PMDG stated whether they are doing a bare-minimum compatibility fix and/or a full-on FS2024 conversion? Fenix appear to be saying that this is effectively just the start of their journey, as far as FS2024 is concerned.
