Which software have you used to do a flight plan and on which aircraft have you loaded it. In general activating AP is not enough…you must also press NAV and do other operations too.
What mode do you see in the PFD?
One issue I’ve had is that when I start up the plane, the initial altitude is set to 100’. I was over that immediately, the plane didn’t like it. Set the altitude to 5000’ or something, or as instructed by ATC. Also do you see a path for the flight plan? Some departures have a manual component initially until you get to a certain waypoint. Try using direct to, and pick a waypoint on the departure.
