Abbreviated List of High-Impact VR Fixes

Hi All!

I’ve been enjoying MSFS 2024 for a couple of weeks with my HP Reverb G2 VR setup. My peripherals are the VKB Gladiator NXT Premium and a Thrustmaster TWCS. Running AMD 7700X, Nvidia RTX3090, 32GB RAM.

MSFS 2024 (and 2020) is a remarkable piece of software engineering. Excluding VR and all the peripherals, it’s amazing that it reached the point of hitting store shelves in the first place. Making this VR Ready is probably a major undertaking given that the 3D space has 3D responsibilities (e.g. interaction), and it’s probably a lot less forgiving when there are glaring errors that are invisible on traditional 2D displays.

I thought it would be helpful to Asobo to put together this brief list of problems that if fixed, could make the world a much better place for VR users like myself. While there is probably more to add, I wanted fixes that could benefit the most people at once. I didn’t include things like performance, streaming, CTD, etc. because I figured Asobo is working on that already (and I’m actually OK).

I know there is a recommended template. However, the problems here are pretty consistent across the game, and I don’t think they are VR hardware specific. I don’t have community or special utilities installed.

INTERACTION

This is probably the hardest one. Fixes / asks:

  • Using my Reverb G2 controllers is clumsy. When some items are in different layers of 3D space, they can’t be touched. Even by my regular mouse, I can have difficulties. The biggest culprit is the new info tablet. When zoomed to full size, the mouse pointer can’t seem to touch it or make changes to it because it’s at the wrong 3D depth.

  • HOTAS peripherals. I really like how the MSFS 2024 control setup works; especially the customization. All I ask is that there is some ALT-button or mode button option so that we could use our scroll wheels to change the settings increments (e.g. going from 100 units at a time to 1,000 units at a time, etc.). The less we have to use our mice, keyboards, or VR controllers - the better.

  • Using VR controllers to scroll through the game’s menus and options is unpleasant. It used to be possible to use the thumbsticks to scroll instead, but that feature appears to be gone completely.

  • In MSFS 2020, there were default VR controller settings. Now I have to map everything manually. I don’t think things have changed that much. Could Asobo create a default settings profile for VR controllers?

RAYMARCH REFLECTIONS

When I move my head around, the reflections disconnect from their objects (e.g. reflections on water surfaces). This needs to be locked down. Easy to spot in New York City “Discovery” activity.

VR MENU MISSING

  • This regularly comes up in the discussion threads.

That’s all I could think of right now.

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.
