One thing I have been meaning to ask is what do GiB and MiB mean in mfsf 2020 mean. OK, I have a pretty good idea we’re talking GB and MB - i.e. Gigabits (bytes) and Megabits (bytes) and yes, there is a factor of 8 difference betwee each pairing, but I am sure GiB and MiB are French abbreviations. And besides - the French also use Megaoctet and Gigaoctet…
My teddy just bit me…
It’s a terminology thing, actually those are what you usually know as kilobytes and megabytes.
Some theory-obsessed guys decided the classic abbreviations are incorrect (although routinely used for decades).
Never seen programmers use those though (20+ years on the job)
1 KB = 1024 bytes (2^10)
1 MB = 1024 KB = 1048576 bytes
Cessna Citation CJ4 - 372.65 MIB
390,751,255 bytes / 1024 / 1024 = 372.649 MB
747-8 - 827.18 MIB
867,360,746 bytes / 1024 / 1024 = 827.179 MB
FXME - Makatane Airstrip - 44.52 KIB
45,589 bytes / 1024 = 44.520 KB
I’ve said all along - it’s a French thing. It’s like selecting the option to leave the flight and the beast asks if you want to continue…
I do not want to continue, I want to end! I wouldn’t have clicked end otherwise, now would I?
(I am allowed to say that, I am a Rosbif and we have been having a love-hate thing for a thousand years.)
