What happened with ability to change the departure runway after taxi clearance? There used to be an option to do this on the ATC screen, but not anymore.
VFR or IFR? I can change my runway for departure if I’m on VFR, just ask for VFR clearance, and once you are assigned the runway by ATC, ask to change the runway into another one of your choice. This has to be done BEFORE the taxi clearance, though.
On IFR though, I’m usually set to a cleared runway, since my flight plan is created to be departing from that cleared runway.
Thank you. That’s correct, I am usually all set to use a specific runway in my flight plan, but the option was there and now it’s gone. We should be able to request another runway with IFR.
If you want another runway with IFR, you need to reset your flight plan to depart from the other runway that you choose, then ask for clearance again.
I think you mean if you are not using in game flight planer, such as simbrief. It will give you runway A based on the weather info. Then when you spawn in game, the ATC will give you runway B. Then you can’t change it to runway A in your flight plan.
I don’t know if there is a way to change it. What I usually do is to type in my departure airport in in game flight planer, it will put you on the “active” runway the game thinks. Then use that runway to start your simbrief flight plan. Then you will have a consistent runway assigned.
Why not do it the other way around? This is how I always do it.
- Set Departure gate, then use the dropdown menu to select the same departure gate.
- Set Arrival date, then also use the dropdown menu to select the same arrival date.
- Change to IFR (High Airways).
- You should see the departing runway in the world map, as well as the approach into the active runway on arrival. Take a mental note on these two.
- Go to SimBrief and enter the departing runway and the arriving runway, let it generate a new flight plan based on these information.
- Take a note of the SIDs and STARs from the SimBrief flight plan, then choose the SID and STAR on the MSFS world map.
- Click Fly.
Then you’ll always be on an active runway departure pattern, and the ATC will follow suit.
I am only selcting the departure gate in the flight plan menue of FS2020. The rest I would ignore, unless needed. Then start the flight and you will be set to the gate you selected. Now, when in the A/C I will contact ATIS to find out the runway and update SimBrief. Then I will enter the SimBrief flight plan into the FMGC. Strange enough, ATC might ignore that and give you another RWY despite ATIS info when requesting IFR clearance. Never mind, just change the departure in the FP again.
Did I get something wrong?
This is why I always set my departing runway from my flight plan directly by assigning the SID before I start the flight.
I got the point.
