Would like to deal with an engine failure, avionics failure, medical emergency, etc. to career mode flights. Something to make you divert and declare mayday/pan-pan. Medflight missions are so far the only ones that sorta have this, would like to see it mixed into other missions as well. ATC really needs to be improved to accommodate this though.
I would prefer NOT to see this added to the career mode. IMO it is already far too buggy, onerous and inscrutable without adding yet another layer of complexity.
I think the bugs we have to deal with are more than enough to keep us on our toes
As someone really into the Stalker series of games, the list thing I want to see on my flights are anomalies.
No because it will require me to pay attention for whole flight duration.
I understand the desire for something to breakup the monotony of doing 15 medium cargo missions back to back, just not sure this is it.
Also, does this all not already happen if you fail to pay maintenance?
I agree you should be able initiate these yourself but the system should not force them on people. According to historical data, the accident rate for general aviation (which includes Cessnas) is about 1.2 accidents per 100,000 flight hours in the United States (as of 2023). Most of these incidents are attributed to pilot error rather than mechanical failure. I’ve also seen the statistic that the odds of experiencing an issue (minor or otherwise) is estimated at less than 1% per flight.
This will more than likely happen when you buy your own aircraft and dont do any maintenance to it. My landing gear was toast when i bought it
You have them if you don’t maintain your planes. Lost my wheel left brake once, I don’t recommend the experience.
You’re right about accident rates, but for perspective, things do break (or indicate broken) quite a bit more than that. It just ends up at less than emergency status and/or is handled by the pilot, like with a diversion or precautionary landing.
That said, I don’t trust the sim is in a place to inject any random anomalies in a reliable, realistic manner. Maybe someday, and if so, make it another “hard mode” option - don’t force it on everyone.
As some have noted, there are already systems failures based on wear/damage. Even in employee mode, where all aircraft parts start each mission in “new” state, it’s still possible to break them – I once destroyed the flaps on a Draco X by overspeeding them and started getting “malfunction” popups when I tried to move the flaps.
What career mode doesn’t have is failure events outside your control (besides bugs lol), like birdstrikes or whatever.
Agree 100%.
I understand the argument for making emergencies an option, and totally agree. I also agree that career mode isn’t in a state to start adding complexity. This topic was more of “I’d like to see this eventually,” but definitely after the issues with career mode are fixed. Maybe they could be a “random failure on/off” option in settings, or they could incorporate them along with the difficulty ratings of each flight (I have yet to figure out the difference between a 1-star difficulty and a 4-star difficulty rating, probably because there isn’t any).
Yes, while accident rates are extremely small in aviation, diversions happen every day for a wide variety of reasons. I just want some of those scenarios incorporated into a career mode (like someone vapes in a lav and fights a flight attendant or something). Make it an option so people who don’t want to deal with that don’t have to, or better yet, create scenario-specific missions to carry out. I understand it’s unrealistic the developers will do anything like this however, I’m simply voicing my thoughts/opinions.
Neofly has optional random failures as well as random “events” (which I haven’t seen yet myself but I believe those are e.g. needing to change destination airports because your passenger gets sick or that sort of thing). Both of these have sliders to set how likely they are to happen, to suit your tastes.
That’s all well and good, but NeoFly isn’t an option for Xbox based simmers. Having it in Career Mode as an option would be a great addition from our perspective.
I would have no problem giving my vote to this IF…
- It was entirely optional
- It did not provide any incentive to use it or disincentive if not used.
This morning I took off in my C208 with a newly replaced engine. Taking off from a narrow valley, about 1 minute into flight oil pressure goes away, few seconds later engine dies.
Feathered props and assumed glide speed, but did not have space to turn back around, tried to find clearing ahead of me.
Ended up landing into some trees instead.
Only broke the one landing gear, so got off light. Mechanic still cannot find anything wrong with my engine.
Edit: took off again, initially all fine again, about 2min into flight my torque shot up suddenly, I reduced throttle to match, and the game ctd. I think they may have broke it.
Didn’t know someone had already posted this wish. Your initial post assumes everyone wants this though.
It should be optional with a toggle, same as the Clouds toggle and also award extra experience / credit.
Its behavior should be to allow the risk of encountering a failure / emergency but not systematically triggering one.
With associated bonuses for XP, and credits.
Wouldn’t mind seeing it added as an option. And I REALLY wouldn’t mind if most stuff in career mode was an option - like real weather, why is it FORCED upon you after you complete your IFR cert? It’s a single player game, we’re only competing against ourselves.
I already see enough anomalies and emergencies
