Advice for a new pc gamer

Hey guys,

I’m new to the pc gaming community, I bought a gaming pc specifically for MSFS. I read the minimum requirements listed on Microsoft’s website and found a gaming pc that met those requirements. This was also bought during covid so gaming towers weren’t easy to come by. I bought a Skytech Shadow that has-

AMD Rayzen 5 3600
Nvidea RTX 3060
16 gb RAM
1 TB of storage

When I went to best buy to pick it up I also went looking at monitors and couldn’t resist buying the Samsung G5 49" curved monitor.

I’m looking to increase the clarity of the graphics, thankfully I rarely have any CTD’s or any kind of lag, but I am looking for the highly detailed scenery that MSFS is capable of. I’m considering upgrading the graphics card and CPU, on the other hand I’m also thinking of selling my monitor and buying a 34" Samsung, but wasn’t sure if I would still need to upgrade hardware even with a smaller monitor to get higher quality. I don’t have thousands of dollars sitting around to buy the best graphics card Nvidea makes, what would you recommend if you were in my shoes? Attached is what my setup looks like.

Hi @RedbrickTag7789,

The first thing I would think about would be increasing your ram.
16GB is fairly small, most folks are 32 and more.

To do 4k resolution properly you’re going to need an RTX 3080/ti level GPU. for ideal1440P you can do 6800XT/RTX3070/ti (Maybe 3060ti not the non ti) (Make sure you have a power supply that can handle the power requirements for the card)
You should also be looking to upgrade your CPU.
After those two are done you can start to look about memory.

It is not the size of the monitor but the resolution that determines the load on your GPU. If the 34" Samsung you are considering is a 4K monitor, it will require more resources than the current widescreen. (the widescreen has about 7/8 the pixels of a 4k). I think, to be happy in 4K, a 3080ti or Radeon equivalant would be the way to go. The good news is that prices have been coming down and they’re actually in stock now.

I appreciate the feedback guys, I’ll check out those graphics cards and ram

i just wanna comment you have a really clean setup dude.

Your setup is very nice - all upgrades are optional, and the most important is to enjoy the sim.
The moment you think about upgrades, then there is no limit to the spending.

Your setup is very decent and looks like it is working well.

I appreciate the compliment, and you’re right, as I’ve been looking into upgrades I’ve noticed even when I find the hardware needed there’s always that thought in the back of my head saying something like “if I could just spend a little more money I could also get this upgrade”. With the fact that pc hardware is always upgrading and growing it seems like it would be a non stop journey of always spending money to try and keep up.
