There’s no zip release yet. You probably downloaded a zip of the source code from github?
You can either install Rust and LLVM and compile following the directions in the readme, or wait for a release.

Ok, I think I’ll wait for a release then. But thanks for your efforts.
But I got to say the PNG the Xbox Game Bar created in parallel to the HDR file is looking quite ok to me. So that is a good workaround at least for me at the moment.
Unless you specifically want to customize the transfer parameters you don’t really need it since you have an SDR file right there. ![]()
How is a release coming along? I downloaded the zip and have no idea what to do with it… but absolutely would love to use the program so I can take screenshots and share them again!!
My current settings seem pretty stable, so I’ll go ahead and try cutting a preliminary release. ![]()
(Still doing some experimenting with transfer functions, but I haven’t been happy with the new ones I’ve tried out.)
Ok give this a try:
You’ll want the “hdrfix-1.0.0-windows-x64.zip” download. Should contain a folder within which you’ll find the readme, the ready-to-use hdrfix.exe itself, and a sample watch.bat batch file that wraps it with the settings I use on my screenshots.
I have the watch.bat sitting in my Videos\Microsoft Flight Simulator folder (you’ll want to drop in hdrfix.exe next to it unless you install it into the system PATH); it just waits for new .jxr files to appear and converts them with the settings I use, which adjusts the contrast a bit with a gamma + exposure shift + tone-mapping.
Let me know if you have any trouble! There’s a possibility you might need to install a certain version of the C runtime library from Microsoft, so if you get an error about missing “vcrun141.dll” or something like that give me a shout and I’ll track down the right link to the download. ![]()
Nope, thank you!

The tool works like a charm.
Noticed when I use the geforce exp software an turn on capture hdr, the tool won’t work.
Hmm, what do you mean by ‘turn on capture hdr’, and by ‘won’t work’?
How do you get to that screen? I’ve never seen it in the GeForce overlay. (And what does “works” vs not mean? Does it save a different format image? Does it not save an image? Are you talking about GeForce overlay’s behavior or about hdrfix’s functionality?)
When i turn that on i guess GeForce does the tonemapping. But normaly it also saves an jxr, but i would guess in a different coding? Because when i tried it, nothing happend with your tool.
For me it is called Fotomodus
With the normal screenshot Funktion GFE isn’t doing a Screenshot at all.
With the Fotomodus you can add filters before taxing the Screen
Ctrl + A
Ah, I’ve never used the ‘photo mode’ (I think I tried it once and it just took a regular screenshot). When you use the regular screenshot mode, what exactly happens? Nothing? Or it saves a .jxr? Or it saves a .png? Do you have multiple monitors, or just one? If multiple, is the primary monitor the HDR monitor?
It’s multiple
Primary is the HDR one.
When i use Fotomodus without HDR enabled i get an png and an jxr.
When HDR enabled GFE saves an png and a exr file. So that is the reason the tool Can’t convert, because no jxr file to convert.
Tried the normal Screenshot again, now it works ![]()
Maybe the game Monitor wasn’t in Focus when trying the first time
Great, I’ll see if I can figure out what mode it’s saving in later and if I need to tweak anything to support that mode too, or if it’s fine as is.
Thanks for the feedback!!
Does this only work with GeForce Experience? I tried doing some screenshots with the xbox gaming app but doesn’t seem to change the screen shots at all.
Should work with the xbox shots as well, unless I forgot to update something.
I’ll double-check tomorrow. Make sure that .jxr files are being produced by the Game Bar.
Works for me with the Windows Game Bar screenshots. Note that these go into a different directory (“Captures” not “Videos\Microsoft Flight Simulator”) so make sure you’re running the watch.bat file in the right directory.
Ok i can confirm with the Photo Mode in GeForce that with its “HDR mode” on it saves a PNG and an EXR, and I don’t yet have support for the EXR. But if you turn “HDR mode” off it will still save a JXR which does get read, so that works for now. ![]()
I’ll add EXR input support to my todo list!
Came looking for a solution and here it is.
Thank you so much for doing this, works really well
