I lived off $330 a week making this, so buying sounds wasn’t exactly an option. As others have said, the aircraft uses almost the same engines, isn’t exactly easy to record, and I don’t know the first thing about sound design. Those are all the reasons it uses the FA-18s sounds.
Hi ,
Its Matthias, (MNPOSTEMA) i am the developer of the freeware HPG H135, H145 sound packs. Also i helped HPG with the sound pack of their payware H145 helicopter.
If you need help with a realistic F117 sound pack feel free to contact me.
Ps yes the F117 has the same engines, BUT what engine sound REALLY changes is the Jet Intake and Exhaust systems. Almost each plane has them in different shapes witch makes them sound different.
Greetings
Matthias
Sounds are something that i think people are way too sensitive about. 99% + of the player base wouldn’t know the sound of a F117 from that of a F18 in a blindfold test. The difference in cockpit switch sounds would be negligible, and again, the vast majority of people wouldn’t know the difference. As for getting bent out of shape because it sounds exactly like the Super Hornet…how often would you fly both back to back, where you would pick up on that?
Lots of simmers do know the difference, also … specially when spending money on an add on you want it so realistic as possible. This is exactly the reason free and payware sound packs are so populair Also ….just look at forum topics about add on sounds, when not good and or realistic people do complain….and YES with a good reason
And people also constantly complain about sound that is entirely correct and realistic because they do not know how things sound in the cockpit.
Again - most people do not know how a certain plane sounds in the cockpit, especially on a highly classified aircraft. So they can not judge if it is realistic.
I respectfully disagree. I would say that only a very few simmers would know the difference between something that is 100% accurate and what is reasonably close.
No worries mate, we can all say what we stand for / believe:+1:There are a lot of videos of all different planes. You are 100% right, most people don’t know…BUT a lot of them watch videos like on YouTube and compare them with add-ons
Would you kindly share the YouTube links from the cockpit of this classified aircraft which you claim there are a lot of?
I totally agree with you on the sound. If it were a F4U Corsair sporting a Big ole’ Pratt & Whitney Radial, a Bi-plane, or a Huey Chopper, those would certainly merit A+ Sound, since sound is a large part of the digital sim experience.
However, with smaller Jets, and only one or two engines, the sound difference isn’t all that wide… Throw in the Deflection Upward of the F-117 Exhaust, it’s even a small issue. It is certainly not a big issue for me… It just highlights how difficult it is for pilots to find anything of significance, that is Off about this really great platform you have created.. A Real Gift at $20 I would suggest…
They are Everywhere, like Bees… lol. I am seeing more and more PAIRS flying around, they are the easiest aircraft in MSFS for flying close-in with your Wing Man…
AerialSim Collector’s Edition
Yeah, great, but the sounds are rubbish, and don’t even get me started on your textures and livery choice!
I have seen and heard an F-117 up close at an airshow on the tarmac and with flyby’s. Honestly it is not so far off… it needs a little bit of a woooshy whine like a mix between current and old-school F1 race cars on top of the F-18 jet sound (almost like another channel, it is a weirdly layered sound) to mimic the exhaust but really you have to be a complete ■■■■ to complain that much. I did my maiden flight last night and it was awesome. well done! https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/y1wlcu/maiden_f117_flight/
Also like someone else mentioned we need a button mapping for the chute. Since there are no speed brake spoilers… would be nice to map the chute deploy/stow to the spoiler toggle.
Speed brake is a good idea, But I was leaning more toward water rudder or something similar since it then wouldn’t mess with as many existing key binds, and wouldn’t be used accidentally. I wouldn’t want someone that isn’t as informed about the F-117 thinking it’s a bug that a parachute shows up when they try and use the speed brakes
If you use one of the more obscure lights, like LOGO light or wing light, then it will show in multiplayer.
It may, it may not, I’m not entirely sure, because it’s just gonna be update code that checks
If A:Waterrudder/spoiler == true then;
L:chute == true
so if you toggle the bindable thing, the local variable will also be toggled. So I’m not 100% sure that it will show up for other players since it’s still the local variable doing all the work. Guess we will find out.
I see your point, however many of us have the spoiler toggle mapped on our hotas or other places and it is in our memory, so it would be seamless to just deploy and stow the chute on the same button mapping as we do it anyway on aircraft that do not have autobrake. I just can’t pull the chute lever when I have my hands on the throttle and stick… and since I have the spoiler toggle already mapped on the back side of the throttle it just makes sense especially since it is a similar control. If I have to map water rudder to that, it would probably be more confusing in the long run for most people although if that’s the solution it is better than nothing. If people start complaining online that the airbrake bind deploys a chute, I promise I will be the first to point out that it is a IRL feature and not a bug lol.
A point of clarification ( for me) please.
I have for example---- the Flaps, the Brakes, The Gear, All programmed on the Same Specific Buttons/Keys on my HOTAS for Redundancy.
I do not reprogram those Buttons just because I get some New aircraft that Doesn’t have Retractable Gear and I want to use that Button for some Other Function on the new Aircraft. Even though It Tells Me That Button/Key Is Already Used for Some Other Purpose, it will still work for the Retractable Gear on the other aircraft, without having to go back in and Reprogram those..
Soooo, I would Simply Link the Chute Deployment Toggle to My Existing Spoiler Button… and Done.
I probably missed it, but I haven’t seen it mentioned, the Chute in it’s current state, does Not provide any Drag to the Aircraft, it’s just for Looks at this point…
If the Chute Functions, there should be no need for a Spoiler. The Gear Down configuration is very effective for bleeding airspeed off this aircraft.
I beg to differ…the chute has a significant braking effect…at least it does on the runway. Whether that is drag or a workaround using wheel braking or reverse thrust, I don’t know. I guess @AerialSim could shed some light on that.
It does slow down, a lot. Its custom code. Doesn’t use brakes, spoilers or reversers
