Aerial Simulations F-117

It wasn’t a Stinger or bazooka that shot down the F-117 but a S-125 air defense system

There was a lot of reasons why the F-117 got shot down. This article covers it pretty well An In-Depth Analysis of how Serbs Were Able to Shoot Down An F-117 Stealth Fighter during Operation Allied Force - The Aviation Geek Club

It was a mix of American complacency, Serbian’s being quite smart, some security leaks and luck. And as others have mentioned stealth doesn’t mean invisible, it means an incredibly small radar signature. It’s incredibly difficult for radar to pick up but not impossible.

Do you already know this page? https://www.artstation.com/artwork/4XqR54
This 3-D art also looks very nice and maybe this will help to work out the details.
I am really looking forward to your implementation of this extraordinary aircraft.

Can we expect to see it on Xbox then post Sim update 10? Just wanting to know because I am really into this project and would love to fly this thing!

It should be coming to Xbox, all depends on Microsoft at this point, everything is native so should work.

The quantity and quality of your work is nothing short of amazing. Seriously. Some entire teams of people can’t show progress like this.

I’m following this thread closely, anticipating release day like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Thank you so much for your dedication and consistency to this project. Greatly appreciated!

Cool screenshot! A Facebook friend of mine, and fellow aviation photographer Rich Cooper, took the original photo that shot is based on . Looking forward to this addon being released. Incredible work thus far.

There were actually “Two” F-117’s painted with the US Flag pattern on their bellies, for an Informal retirement flyover ceremony at Wright Patterson AFB. They were both from the 49th Fighter Wing based out of Holloman AFB, NM. Senior MSgt Kim Frey, assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing, took the airborne photos in 2008.

Yes, as far as I know, 812, the aircraft with the most desert storm missions also had the flag scheme. 843, the last one built, is the one I chose to do. I think 782 also wore the scheme at one point.

This week was all external texturing. So far 4 schemes are done. I have used the decal system to my advantage. I will include 4-5 wear levels for the black base repaints, then to great any black aircraft the only thing you need to supply is one texture and alias the rest to one of the included wear level paints. This makes livery creation really easy, and the downloads are very small.

Next week will be more of the same, but I start my new job tomorrow so progress will slow a bit, luckily there isn’t much left to do!

Here is a Screenshot dump, mostly of the highest wear level. As always WIP, the parachute is not done and the gear and bomb bays still need some attention.

Such an interesting shape. I’m not a big military flyer but if this is reasonably priced I’ll probably pick it up.

As a side question, is it actually any good as a fighter, or dog-fighter? (I get that stealth planes are not supposed to get into dogfights, but…)

It might get out of the way for the first SAM/AA missle, but after that it’s dead in the water. 6g load limit, 13 degree AOA limit, terrible negative G performance, really low power to weight ratio. The whole point of it is not to get to that point in the first place. It has characteristics of its contemporary fighters, but not the performance.

I have a question; When might we see a video regarding the aircraft flight profile and/or cockpit functionality? I do VERY much appreciate the classified nature of the aircraft (as a former NFO), but I am curious about what the aircraft will be like to fly? Thanks in advance for looking at my question!

Add my Name to that Request! I would offer my considerable Test Pilot skills at no cost if you are strapped for time to make that video. Really want to see how well that drogue chute functions…:)) That’s a duty assignment that is on my Wish List… lol.
