After 83 hours

…I still love this sim. I’m glad that MS decided to update MSFS, and in such a massive way. Almost all of my hours are in the TBM and C172 (both versions). I know that the sim is not perfect yet, but the parts that work now still make up a superb flying experience. It is encouraging to see that efforts are being made by developers to address issues and provide enhancements. I’m currently making my way across Australia in the TBM, normally at 6000ft. Amazing experience.
(PC spec: 2080Ti, I9-9900@5Ghz, 32Gb, 2560x1440 ultra settings, no other graphics tweaks, I had one CTD in all that time)
A bit of my sim history: first flight sim was on Vic-20 back in 1982 or thereabouts, another one on Atari 800, again I don’t remember the title (main purpose was delivering airmail somewhere in the US north west maybe?). First MSFS was FS95. I have always had an interest in aviation, near the end of last century I completed a degree in aeronautical engineering (this is not at attempt to show off, I rarely mention it these days as I do not work in aviation, but I thought it may be of some relevance here).
Anyway, I have an hour to spare now, lets see if I can do another leg of the Australia trip.

Despite its problems and my complaining about many of them, I’m still loving the sim. I’m grateful I never encountered a problem severe enough that prevented me from being able to play the game.

Last I checked some days back I had close to 300 hours logged in my flight log, although I know there’s a lot of time missing because a lot of my flights don’t get fully logged or at all. So to say I’ve put some serious time “in the air” is since launch is a bit of an understatement.

My first sim - Falcon 3.0. I bought it with my first PC - a 386 DX40 back in 1993. But that said, I never really did civilian flight sims, and even on the military ones, I was more about learning just enough to be able to blow stuff up vs actually learning to fly. It’s only now with MSFS202 that I’ve actually bothered to sit down and really learn how to do things properly. And I’ve discovered I like that even more than blowing stuff up.

PS: I still like blowing stuff up though. lol

Good for you … and thanks for sharing. now when I read your posts, I will have a much clearer understanding that you will be talking with some technical knowledge about FS and aviaition in general.

Cracks me up when people posting say “I am a Programmer so I know” – as if that is really relevant.
95% of the time, it is very obvious if someone has any relevant programming knowledge, by what they say … being able to program your Cable Box / VCR / cell Phone address book, does not make you a programmer !!

I would not bank on that, after 30 years not much has remained in my head, and the internet has made my mind less focused.

I remember Falcon3.0, came with a massive paper manual. I guess this has been discussed in this forum, but I can see no reason why FS2020 could not become combat flight sim. Ah, a 386DX, I could only afford 386SX at the time.

yes !!! Add a column in the Log Book, for the number of AI Planes “shot down:” during that flight !!! Maybe a HIGHEST SCORE table could be generated LIVE on flightsimulator.com, to show who is the top “Red Barron” :small_airplane: :small_airplane: :small_airplane:
