After PSU replacement MSFS2020 is still turning off my PCCPu temp is 55-60ish GPU temp is 65ish
Replaced my PSU and STILL its turning off, NOT crashing its turning the PC off
It may have been my memory DOCP was rtunning my 3600MT/s at 3205 MT/s
Ill test at new ram speed for proof
Disable any CPU / GPU overclocking and test.
there is NO overclock on any components
EDIT its NOT the RAM causing it
But it is something to do with your PC unfortunately. I’d remove unwanted software, for example armour crate for me caused crashes. Removing it fixed the problem, make sure bios is up to date especially if you have an intel 13 or 14 series chips. But from 40 years experience is sounds like a PSU issue, you need a good PSU, most good PSU’s will have multiple 12v rails check the label, if it only has a single 12v rail this wont be enough and will cause the PC to shut down on high load (which MSFS is). Split your devices across 12v rails (ideally you want a PC with a min of two, ideally four), make sure the GPU is on its own 12v rail.
this has JUST been happening its been running fine since 2020, new PSU has 2 12 volt rails
Its 80 Plus bronze certified.
ill reinstall windows and MSFS2020 tonight
check event viewer and you may be able to narrow down the cause of the crashes (i consider a power loss a “crash”). It’s a lot of gibberish but with some context you can typically figure it out.
Ensure all peripherals (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc) are seated properly (with the tray tables up and the seat backs in their full, upright position nyuk nyuk nyuk). Additionally, check your motherboard is fully screwed to the risers, a short may be being created.
I know you said it’s not the ram, but run memtest86 to be safe. it’ll take a day depending on how much memory you have, but can’t be too careful
when you go to reinstall windows, do a clean install. That will require nuking your hard drive entirely and you’ll have to reinstall all your addons. a pain, but we want to make sure it’s not an OS level issue.
Not sure what specs youre running, but if you’re trying to run a 4090 at 4K on the highest graphics with a 500w psu, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Reinstalling Windows and MSFS is the nuclear option and will not solve a computer hardware problem. I’d exhaust every other possibility before doing that. Try sfc and DISM to make sure all Windows components are working properly, Check your RAM using built-in Windows tools. Also, Memcheck. OCCT will check just about everything on your system. If all fails, wipe and reinstall. Make sure you have a good backup.
Originally I had my power supply set to 2 rail operation, and the sim would crash. Flipped the switch to single rail, no more problems.
You might want to reseat your ram - over time thermal expansion/contraction cycles can cause a ram module to unlatch, making the pc behave “almost ok most of the time.” Good luck.
We have very little data to go on here.
What is the model and wattage of your PSU and what are your other PC specs?
Agree, we need far more information.
We’re flying blind here. Pun intended.
You’re doing far better than me then. I haven’t even started the pre flight checks
To the OP: Not intending to be glib here. Just please give us a bit more info so that we can help you
Which CPU?
Which powersupply und specs?
Which grafic card?
Have you done any kind of stress test? Avira or CPU-Z is the easiest way to go.
You should be able to rule in/out flightsim with a good graphics card test suite. I can’t remember the name of the one I used right now but if running that causes a crash it’s not FS.
I had a problem with my 2080TI back before I upgraded that caused a power off shutdown when heavily loaded.
Might not have been a bad PSU. I wouldn’t install anything less than 1000watts at this point, the cost differential is negligible. But I haven’t built a full new box in about 6 years, so I can’t say I’ve looked into parts cost lately.
Make sure your new PSU is a good name brand and is powerful enough to run your system. This does sound like a bad or underpowered PSU if your PC is shutting completely off. Run Memtest 86 to make sure your memory is good. If running two sticks of RAM test one at a time. I have also seen a bad MB causing the PC to shut down. Check the capacitors on the board. You are looking for any that are bulging or leaking. This honestly sounds like a bad or underpowered PSU. Please list the brand name and wattage of your new PSU so we can help you. Also recheck the PSU connections and make sure they are plugged in fully.
Yes we need more info, but these can be tricky sometimes. Not long ago I was having a similar issue with computer restarts due to a buggy GPU driver that was resolved by rolling it back. That was eventually fixed about 3 driver updates later.
its a ASUS TUF gaming 750 watt PSU, my older corsair RM850X still seems good
As others have pointed out, that’s far from enough info.
Cooling solution? Case? Graphics card? Ram? Motherboard? CPU? OS? Peripherals? When the last time was that the cpu thermal paste was renewed? If water cooled, when the last time the system was flushed and topped up? CPU cooler? Number of fans? Running Temperature at idle? Running temperature under load?
Without this info, we’re just wasting time.
These will tell people how old the system is, and whether recent changes to the sim have possibly exceeded your hardware.
If you’re experiencing hardware issues, you should take your PC to the nearest service center so they can check hardware. I would recommend a BIOS update, but given your PC’s stability problems, this should ideally be handled by a service professional. You should also ask them to properly configure the BIOS settings, as this might be one of the reasons your PC is shutting down unexpectedly.
As a tip, when posting about hardware issues in the future, please include a complete list of your PC hardware, as well as driver versions and any background programs that are running. This will help others provide better support.
I’m curious. Does it only shut off when MSFS is installed?
