AI "Pilot" Engages in Cursor Mode and Messes Up Flight

On the a330-200 (GE) and a321 the bug’s still present, unfortunately.

@BracedPegasus89 what platform are you in? In the Discussion thread for the Beta there are detailed instructions on how to install it

I can confirm, the issue is definitely not fixed. It is still making my flying extremely difficult and the option to remove the A.I pilot as you say, needs to come ASAP.

Ahh ■■■■ I just of gotten lucky I was too scared to try again haha but yes the option to disable the AI Copilot is definitely a must have. But yeah maybe if I had of tried a few more flights the throttle/flight surfaces bug would’ve reared up again because the ILS problem is still definitely there

Just had this happen to me, was on approach and had to do the atc callout in cursor mode because the hotkey never works. AI put my flaps all the way up and no notice, nothing else to notify it was doing anything, missed approach because i was going too fast. got fed up and quit because it seems like all the AI in cursor mode does is actively sabotage you, but you have to use in in crucial parts of flight because so many other things are also bugged. Fix it. Let us turn it off.

Had this happen to me again on final approach fix when ATC keybind wouldn’t work for the call-out so I was literally forced into cursor mode to not get performance loss for your bugged game. AI (which I will refer to as saboteur from now on) immediately cut all engines and pointed my nose as high as it possibly could as fast as it possibly could. Didn’t touch the flaps… This time.

It’s awful, just turn it off across the board, it always does the exact opposite of anything sensible.

Edit about an hr after the last…

Just had this happen on approach, hot key called wrong runway to land at last minute, cursor mode did full throttle while I was at 500ft altitude. Fixed that, went back in to cursor mode to try to fix the ATC call to the correct runway. 0 throttle and rpm spike and I was dropping like a rock. I had to dashboard because I’m not gonna crash because the AI is literally sabotaging me.

Turn it off!

Had this happen again last night in my C208. I was climbing after take off and was forced to go into cursor mode to do ATC calls because the hotkey rarely works. I had 0 flaps, 80% throttle, and about 10 degree climb rate. What’s AI decide I need? Full flaps, 100% throttle, steep nose down. Instant flaps overspeed and very close to over aircraft safe top speed before I could get it under control.

Just turn that feature off, it’s worse than useless.

Yes the same for me. Still plaguing the vast majority of my flights using the Xbox controller - particularly with airliners. It is the single most disruptive bug in the sim for Xbox controller users right now and I can see this thread has been tagged as ‘bug logged’ but I have seen no mention from Asobo anywhere as to when we can expect a fix. It hasn’t made any of the lists for upcoming fixes that I can see. Asobo PLEASE FIX THIS!

I had to try purchasing a keyboard and mouse combo, even though it’s not the ideal solution—in fact, it’s not really a solution at all. Using the keyboard and mouse alongside the controller felt very unnatural to me. I attempted a test landing using just the keyboard and mouse, with minimal use of the controller. Initially, I was hopeful because using the mouse eliminates the need for “cursor mode,” as mouse movement seems to be separate from that feature. This meant the strange throttle and flaps adjustments associated with cursor mode weren’t an issue.

On final approach into YMML, the bug didn’t occur during the one flight I tried, but that’s simply because I didn’t use cursor mode. However, a new problem arose: once the PFD transitioned to LAND mode, it lost the GS and started “porpoising” up and down until it overshot the runway.

For context, I’m using the SU1 beta version, and this was just one short test flight. Still, it provides a bit more evidence that cursor mode is the cause of the issues in the iniBuilds Airbuses. I didn’t want to spend extra money on a keyboard and mouse just to confirm what I already suspected, but at least it makes flying slightly less frustrating until they fix the AI Pilot and cursor mode issue.

But at least now I have a cool RGB keyboard and mouse to look at whilst I’m getting swarmed by bugs

It’s because for some reason Xbox users in the forum focus on the mouse freelook bug and the catastrophic performance

I agree, as mentioned I had to purchase a mouse and keyboard for the Xbox until they fixed the ai copilot bugs, and either I’m stupid or not as particular about mouse movement but moving the mouse around to look around the place seems fine to me, it just feels awkward as I’ve never used a mouse for this before. They really need to either add a toggle back to turn off copilot in cursor mode or remove it altogether as it is buggy as heck.

Commenting again in the hope that this will be addressed in SU2, seen as though it hasn’t in SU1. Cannot be a hard fix. Come on Asobo, please enable us to be able to use the product we paid for

Use of the cursor equals loss of control of the aircraft. Respectfully, how does this not require an immediate fix?

Either there should be an option for this, like in MSFS 2020 (“AI piloting while in Cursor Mode”, or whatever it was called), or this legacy feature should be removed completely. I never used it in 2020 for the exact same reason we have problems now: I never wanted the AI to try to guess what the aircraft should do. When I am in Cursor Mode, the aircraft should fly “hands off”, whatever state I left it in. I never had an issue in 2020 with this as Cursor Mode is only ever used intermittently.

But with the current state of 2024, even that intermittent use of Cursor Mode is enough to completely mess up and endanger a flight. You try to follow a procedure and want to adjust any instrument, lighting or anything, and the AI just pulls the throttle to idle, or pushes it to full, erratically changes pitch, direction, and at worst case it crashes the aircraft. It is simply unacceptable to exist in this state with no option to turn it off.

I don’t even know why we have to keep explaining the problem. Anyone can reproduce the bug in a minute of flight, as long as they use a controller and engage Cursor Mode. I’d wager it’s the same in the PC version, not just Xbox, although obviously PC users have a mouse at hand so no one uses Cursor Mode on that platform. But functionally I bet it’s there.

This is a critical issue on Xbox, but unfortunately with so few “votes” it’s probably very low on the priority list. Which is a shame.

I fly on Xbox and use a mouse instead of cursor mode. But that’s not really a remedy, The cursor problem should be dealt with if simmers can only fly using controller only. Typical MS trying to fix something that was t broke in 2020

I seen in the recent developer stream that they will eventually bring back AI Copilot assistance functionality so hopefully that also brings back the toggle to turn off AI copilot in cursor mode, therefore solving the issue. So if they fix/add the functionality it’s just a waiting game at this point, we’ve all had to have monk levels of patience for this. But I’m slowly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here’s another demonstration, this time with a third-party aircraft, the F-35 by IndiaFoxtEcho. As soon as I engage Cursor Mode, the AI pulls the throttle to idle. Also, if the plane is in a turn, climb or descent, the AI pulls it back to level flight. Makes no sense.

Sad to see that even though it’s a logged bug, Sim Update 2 still won’t address it. Players without a mouse are really hopeless.

Any word on this?

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• This happened in 2020 too, all you go to do is go to AI pilot and disable the option AI pilot while in cursor mode. Hope this helps!

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

That doesn’t work in 2024 as there’s no such option to disable that as there was in 2020, it’s doing the same when using cursor mode, but less effective and there’s no option to disable it, I think that’s the main issue people are having, it’s like a half baked version of it at the moment, but according to one of the dev streams they intend to fix it and implement it better.
