Yes, I think the main problem is that the option to disable this “feature” is missing from 2024. I never enabled it in 2020 so I don’t know what it did there, if it behaved correctly or messed up flights the same way. My first action was to disable any such assists there (in 2020) so it was never a problem. In 2024, the option is missing completely.
Bad news. As per the release notes, Sim Update 4 doesn’t fix this bug so it will probably remain in the simulator indefinitely.
Thanks for the report. I’m very disappointed. ![]()
Still not enough votes for this bug to make it into the development feedback snapshots, so the devs will not pay attention to it, with too many “more important” issues to attend to.
This bug is still not in the Feedback Snapshot which means the developers pay no attention to it.
PLZ Developer Look into this. In msfs 2020 we have No issues. Ppl like me who play only with a Xbox Controller cant enjoy msfs 2024 bcs of this crazy bug
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yep
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• as above
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• don’t have any
I hadn’t noticed this until recently, now it’s really bugging me. The A2A Aerostar really suffers with it - even with autopilot on the AI Pilot tries to take over and causes a really odd oscillation
This is present in many aircraft. Even though an active autopilot prevents the “AI” to mess up the controls, it can still cause small issues. For example, in the A321neo, while the autopilot in on, whenever you engage the cursor, you can see the aircraft jerk in a direction because the “AI” tries to steer the plane and fights with the autopilot. It goes back to neutral when you disengage Cursor Mode.
A similar thing happens in the PC-12 which I just recently noticed. While it’s flying on autopilot, engaging the Cursor Mode sometimes results in the yoke being pulled back, as the “AI” tries to do something. Again, it doesn’t affect the flight but it breaks immersion.
If the autopilot is not engaged, you basically can’t hand-fly because using the cursor automatically ruins whatever you wanted to do. On cruise, the “AI” pulls the throttle to idle (???). On final, it pushes it to TOGA (???). Not to mention the direction changes, and sometimes outright crashes into the ground. Completely illogical and unpredictable.
MSFS 2020 had a simple option to disable this “assistance”. Here, the developers haven’t even acknowledged the bug’s existence. This affects everyone flying without a mouse, on consoles and cloud. And yet there’s no action taken.
Seriously disruptive logged bug. Almost a year old. Can we have an explanation please from the developer of why this is yet to be fixed.
Sim Update 4 will released soon and still Asobo didnt fix this gamebreaking bug. It ruins the experience for all who play exclusive with Xbox Controller. If they dont fix this now and we have to wait til next sim Update this will be long
My only hope is that when the PS5 version is released in December, there will be new players with controllers and not everyone will automatically use a mouse there. Then, there may be a new wave of people who encounter this issue, using Cursor Mode and seeing their aircraft being hijacked by AI, and coming here to vote and share their experience. This bug report may just get a much needed second wind then.
On one level I share that hope. But as a Xbox/controller user I have already felt unfairly treated by the lack of response to this egregious bug. If it takes users of a separate platform to get action, what does that say?
Today I took off in my Pilatus PC-12 in Career Mode, but just after takeoff I had to use the cursor because the ATC communications didn’t work with the d-pad (another long-standing bug). As soon as I engaged the Cursor Mode, the “AI pilot” did the following:
- Deviated from the turn I was making, banking the aircraft in the OPPOSITE direction
- Retracted the flaps
- Pulled the throttle to idle
- Pushed the nose of the aircraft down to a dive of at least 15-20 degrees
I only had a few seconds to click the ATC panel, disengage the cursor and save the aircraft from crashing.
You know, I often think folks here are a bit harsh when dealing with bugs in the sim.
However the persistence of this bug is mind-boggling. Why does Cursor mode activate an AI pilot in the first place? Why hasn’t that been deactivated yet? I share your frustration ![]()
To be honest, for me this is the one bug that prevents me from fully enjoying the sim as it is, and prevents me from playing altogether in many instances. I could do with the compromised performance on Xbox, I could do with the blurry terrain (although, ironically, these are the things that are getting fixed in SU4) and even the myriad of bugs in the Career Mode.
What I can’t do with is the simulator fundamentally not working with a controller, because the Cursor is a vital part of flying, it’s our “hand” to use instruments with. I have to keep reminding myself that as long as I’m hand flying (not on autopilot), I must not interact with anything in the aircraft, because the moment I get the Cursor out, the flight will be compromised. I can’t operate anything, I can’t even change the zoom on a Garmin map because it needs the Cursor. As soon as I do, the “AI” will do crazy things. It’s illogical, it’s silly, often dangerous, and it’s been here ever since release.
I also tried the workaround that was mentioned in another thread, that you switch all assistances back to default, then again to your preferences. On Xbox at least, it doesn’t work. The “AI” is always there, ready to ruin your flight as soon as you engage the Cursor.
Hi there,
PS5 user checking in, I found this discussion after googling for a solution to this problem. This keeps happening to me, it’s almost caused me to crash a few times. The thing is it wasn’t happening originally, I was able to enter cursor mode and the plane would just hold its flight path. Now every time I enter cursor mode the plane throttles back and dives toward the earth. Really concerned reading this this has been a known bug for awhile and not acknowledged! I just spent $130 on this game!
xCloud/Gamepad
Welcome, and thank you for posting your experience. We have been waiting a year for a fix for this egregious bug. I don’t know what to tell you.
I just use a mouse mate until hopefully it’s fixed. Makes things so much easier
I can confirm that Sim Update 4 unfortunately did NOT fix this bug. The AI still intervenes and ruins the flight as soon as you engage the Cursor Mode during flight. ![]()
