AI "Pilot" Engages in Cursor Mode and Messes Up Flight

It’s quite possible that the developers are not even aware of the issue, because none of them play with a controller. Even if they play on an Xbox, they must have keyboards and mice connected. So they simply don’t discover the bug. And since it doesn’t have enough votes, it won’t “ping on their radars” either. Unfortunately, very possible that it will never be fixed, however game-breaking it might be.

Unfortunately I have to confirm that this bug is still present in Sim Update 3 (1.5.26.0). When flying, engaging the Cursor Mode activates some kind of AI pilot that intervenes and ruins the flight, because it wants to turn the aircraft in some arbitrary direction and altitude, pulling or pushing the throttle completely in the process. There is still no option to disable this “AI pilot”, if it’s ought to be an assistance at all.

The course problem still persists. In this update 3, it got worse. It’s impossible to fly VFR. How is this possible? How can it get even worse?

In fact, it’s impossible to simulate flying any flight, because it looks ridiculous when you take off the autopilot and need to use the cursor with the control.

Yes, the issue persists for me with release of SU3: uncommanded flight control movements in Cursor mode, including flaps settings. I see the “bug-logged” tag now, but the slow response has been disappointing considering the egregiousness of this bug. Many players with this playstyle have been left behind from the start.

If Sim Update 4 doesn’t address this issue then it will stay with us forever, unfortunately. MSFS 2024 will therefore probably remain borderline unflyable with a controller.

This is the worst bug on XBox. It ruins alot of perfectly good flights that took along time to setup. I setup a nice cruise altitude, speed, trim and the works. Then, simply using Cursor Mode causes your plane to nosedive and crash. I lose my altitude, trim settings, speed settings and sometimes the aircraft even crashes. Does quality assurance even try to fly flight sim on an XBox using just a controller like so many of us? They should. This should have been fixed in Sim Update 1 along time ago. Anyway, its good to see it is finally getting some overdue attention.

No, that will not fix it because I deleted all of my data, then uninstalled the entire flight sim 2024 SU3. Then, I deleted all of my data in the XBox settings. Restarted the XBox. Reinstalled the final release of flight sim 2024 SU3 .27 after everything was wiped. Then, restarted the XBox and the big still persists. The fact is this being the worst bug on XBox still persists. The XBox Controller Cursor Mode still takes over and wrecks perfectly good flights.

I just have become so accustomed to the problem I have to be super quick during Cursor Mode, I pop out of Cursor Mode, adjust back to level flight, then start Cursor Mode again and again to finish where I left off adjusting the whole time. Sometimes I cannot be quick enough though and it racks up a crash. It’s really super frustrating. It’s like no one on the development team even uses an XBox controller, but they sell the sim on XBox. This bug needs some serious attention soon. With all of that said, SU3 is still the best update yet. But this is still holding the whole sim back on XBox.

I gave up using cursor mode a while back and now have gotten use to using a wireless mouse with the efb and top panel - weather, Atc etc, and actually prefer it now as I also use it navigating the planes switches and knobs.

I need Cursor Mode because I use flight sim on a TV while sitting at a sofa. I’m glad that you are able to use those in your situation. Enjoy. But Cursor Mode is my only option in my Den as it is. So this bugs needs to be fixed.

I do the same but I’ve bought a cheap camping chair and sit in front of TV with mouse mat on arm of chair. Works a treat.

Using a mouse is valid but not every player can do it for various reasons. And we should not be forced either, only because there’s this (logged) bug in the game. Cursor Mode should be usable in-flight, and it should not summon a ghost pilot that deviates the aircraft in any way.

However, since the developers never acknowledged the existence of this bug, I don’t think it will ever be fixed. I don’t trust Asobo and Microsoft anymore.

No not every player can do it but I can’t fathom a reason why. It’s a mouse on a mat?

Guys, I accidentally found the solution. In the control configuration, uncheck the cursor. Now it’s working fine, for now. … For a moment it worked

What setting do you refer to exactly? I’d like to test it but don’t know what you mean.

In settings, search for buttons, search for “L on click”, then uncheck all settings, recheck only Turn Cursor on or off. It solved only one problem, the one where the aircraft keeps changing altitude when clicking to open the cursor..

Yes and…

Let me look around freely without snagging items in the cockpit. That the center of the view is ALWAYS an active mouse pointer (XBOX) is very frustrating; sometimes crash-inducing.

Thanks. I think the only thing that’s bound to “L Click” for me is the Cursor Mode (I already re-bound it from the default “LB+L” combination because it was super inconvenient for me), but I will double check soon.

This is also a submitted big report here, and probably others have made reports about is as well, because it’s present on PC too, as far as I know. Annoying. It hasn’t been acknowledged from the developers yet, even though this same bug was in 2020 and they fixed it.

Edit: Also here.

Okay, so I tested but managing the key binding doesn’t solve the issue.

As you can see here, I already had only the Cursor Mode toggle on the left click.

Just to be sure, I unbound the key, saved, then re-bound it to Cursor Toggle. Started a flight and tested it, but the issue remains. As soon as I engage the Cursor Mode in flight, the AI pilot intervenes, pushes full throttle and tries to “level” the aircraft, even though I didn’t ask for it. Obviously, depending on the aircraft and the flight situation the AI does random things, like pulling the throttle and crashing the airplane.

It’s useless and unplayable.

Unfortunately messing with key bindings doesn’t solve anything. It’s the fact that the “AI COPILOT” switches on when cursor mode is activated. As it did in 2020, the only difference being in this version of the sim there’s no functional AI Copilot or settings to “switch off ai copilot in cursor mode” as there was in 2020. So until they either fully implement a working Ai copilot or remove it entirely the problem will persist
