I am a viewer of the show Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel. There have been some very incredible saves by some amazing flight crews (e.g. The Miracle on the Hudson). I just wonder if it would be possible to put some of these scenerios into the sim? I think it would be interesting to be put into the same situations and see if you can succeed.
When youâre in the aircraft selection menu, there is actually a failures tab that you can open to get some exposure to a simulated failure. They donât have many options in there right now though - much fewer than Microsoft Flight Sim X has anyway.
I have seen them all, very interesting.
Look up Joshua Allec Ibay on Youtube- That kid recreated a lot of disasters and told the stories too. He uses different sims, but mostly FSX. Itâs incredible what people can do with a little creativity. Canât wait to see them pop up in this sim too.
Iâve watch pretty much all those shows⊠They either blow up in flight or have an engine failure, otherwise there are very few failures due to the redundancy in the jet liner industry. For the GA stuff the random system failures could be an interesting challenge.
If you wanted to âsimulateâ such an event just shut down 1 or 2 engines. Sometimes if I need cut my flight short, Iâll pretend the need for an emergency landing (say medical) and see if I can put her down in x minutes at a nearby airport. Sadly, all my medical emergencies have died from my slow landing setup and skills.
Search the forums I recall a pretty slick add on with more flexibility with failure options. (instead of using the built in basic one)
If only we had a 767, then we could try this one out.
A cautionary tale about the importance of getting your units right.
In Canada we have âMaydayâ. While I have always been fascinated by watching investigation documentaries and reading the monthly reports from TC I would think that re-enacting close calls and/or disasters in an entertainment genre would be somewhat insensitive. Although the investigation reports and videos are very educational for real life pilots and the changes made to prevent future disasters can be reassuring to the flying public, I do not believe the majority of MSFS users would use the scenarios as in that fashion. This is possibly something that an aftermarket developer could create but even then I think it would be seen in poor taste. Not something MS/Asobo is likely to engage.
Transport Canada Safety Letter : Motto
âLearn from the mistakes of others. You will not live long enough to make them all yourself.â
When I left the military I got a bit of a shock, as civilian air operators are generally competing with others on price, many see crew training as something that eats away the profit margin, so will only allocate the very minimum of simulator time. This does crop up often in air accident investigations.
I love the quote from Stellios the owner (at that time) of Easyjet,
âIf you think flight safety is expensiveâŠtry paying for an accidentâ.
I did find RandFailuresfs2020. It does look pretty slick. Looking forward to trying it out.
Oh I loved that series.
I know that if it isnât on YouTube, it never happened, but Iâm a bit old fashioned ⊠if you find that kind of thing interesting, see if you can get hold of this book:
âEmergency: Crisis on the Flight Deckâ, by Stanley Stewart
Ex BA pilot talking about some amazing incidents that nearly ended in disaster but didnât. A gripping read and works without power or the interweb!
