I would love to see this beauty for long travels
The a330 NEO would be really awesome Would love to fly it it ranks up there with the erj 145 on my top five favorite airliners to fly on in real life
Aerosoft will release a Study Level A330, which will also appear in the Marketplace. According to the Aerosoft team, it will cost around 35âŹ, which is very reasonable for a study level aircraft. Aerosoft may also release an A330 Neo in the future, but as far as I know nothing is official yet.
Headwind simulations are already making an A330-900,
Itâs free:
Hello will the Inibuilds a330 come on xbox on msfs 2020 version?
Yeah of course. The whole sim, including all his aircraft will come for both PC and Xbox
Only for FS2024 as far as I know, and for the standard version which will be free on gamepass day 1.
Can we now consider the Headwind A330neo as âabandonwareâ?
I donât think so. The HW team is quite small and they rely on FBW A320N stable version for systems. Since the A320 stable isnât updated very often (dev version gets updates more or less daily) I donât think there is much they can do (expect working on the new model). So I donât think itâs abandoned, just very slow progress due to above factors.
I would recommend you to join their discord if you want to ask them yourself.
Anyway, the HW cockpit model isnât great, but you can still fly the plane. It doesnât have full functionality of every system (like RNAV or auto step climb) but you wonât have any issues flying it from A to B. I occasionally do over night long haul flights (like 10-12 hour flights) and it works just fine.
Just remember to turn off AI traffic but just like the FBW A320 it will auto disconnect autopilot on TCAS conflict.
Nothing at all has happened with the Headwind for the best part of the past year. To me that firmly puts it into the category of âabandonwareâ.
There are many aspects about the model that they could have improved in the meantime. Not just the cockpit geometry or the chordwise kink in the wing at mid-span, but also the flight model itself.
For example, I challenge you to successfully perform a takeoff and climbout with a post V1 engine failure at Max TO-Weight â eg anything from 242,000kgs to 251,000kgs!
NB. Every twin-engined airliner in real life is certified to perform its climbout safely with a post V1 engine failure â even with a FLEX setting in the FMS.
And yes, some time ago I did go on the HW Discord page and alerted the problem â which they acknowledged was something that needed fixing. But they still havenât.
problem is the headwind cockpit is from the A320. so in fact it is a 320 in a 330 skin
dont get me wrong, for a freeware its still great and you can fly from a to b, just its not an A330 with its enhanced hydraulic, fuelling etc.
headwind say they work on a new cockpit but no news on that since years. it has stll the old FMS as the FBW team is concentrating on their 380. next stabile release after the 380 developer preview release.
a330driver in youtube said it flys quite well.
If I am not mistaken Fslabs is working on complex A330 for MSFS - would it include the neo version, I am not sure - but if they do then that would be worth a while. Aerosoft recently released their A330 with other engines and neo option coming as another pay ware update. Personally I wouldnât bother with Aerosoftâs one and will wait to see if Fslabs or any other developers bring any complex A330. Till then Headwind A330 would do - not the best option but not the worst option either.
Below is a quote from their discord server. As you can see they are still working on it so not really abandonware. Itâs fairly common for developers to go quiet for longer periods of time. As for HW they are still dependent of the FBW stable version. Once the FBW publish an update on the A320N stable version the HW will start working on an update of the systems. That is how it has been working so far.

Hello @everyone,The release of the Aerosoft A330 today is a perfect example of why weâve taken a step back and become more quiet. We are focused on delivering quality, rather than rushing out updates. Rest assured, our team is continuously working hard, and we take every comment on our development posts very seriously. For example, we shared some previews of the engines in the past, which had received good criticism, and we have been actively working to improve it based on your feedback. You can see the new shape below in the preview.
Thank you for your understanding and support!Best regards,

This is not credible. They took a âstep backâ almost a year ago now, and counting.
ps. There are many things they could have done to the model and flight dynamics, regardless of the FMS.
Good points, but you miss out the words, âfreewareâ and âtheir own time.â Just look how long the FBW A380 is taking.
It is what it is.
To be fair, the headwind A330 Neo was only released that early as they used a converted FSX model and the A320 cockpit initially. They some times back started their own exterior and interior models, also for the Superjet. The last announcement about the progress on the exterior was in March:
Same thing applies to the FBW A320 which was started on an existing base. There were also no significant changes within the last months and nobody calls their aircraft being âabandonwareâ, maybe because they push also small changes to the development build so youâll see an update daily.
Creating new models from scratch alone takes quite some time if it should be a good optimized yet good looking one.
As the A330 Neo is basically still flyable they focus simply on their new versions with the limited resources they have.
FBW released their own FMS for the A320Neo not so long ago.
we know they work on the 380.
*FBW expanded their framework to an all custom FMS
While that is true itâs also not extremely important as the former FMS also was heavily customized. The main focus of this action is to expand the functionality also for the A380 as the framework will be used on their testbed (A320 Neo) and on their main project (A380).
The A330 Neo has a customized version of FBWs legacy FMS which also works fine for normal flight planning. There is also nothing (as far as Iâm aware) which prevents you currently from using it on VATSIM.
The headwind guys surely will also adapt to the all custom FMS at some point, however itâs nothing urgent imho.
