I wanted to hate this game so badly at first, but the truth is… most of the time it’s not the game — it’s us. The controls are complicated, and I’ll be the first to admit I was at fault. After days of frustration, I finally found the solution.
It’s not a bug. It’s not the game being broken. If it were, everyone would be experiencing it and nobody would be playing. What’s really happening is a conflict in how some of us set up our controls.
In my case, I discovered that “toggle brakes” had been bound to one of my joystick buttons without me realizing it. A parking brake can also sometimes get bound to the same type of button, which makes things even worse. The problem is that these buttons don’t always give a clean signal — they can be a little “sticky.” Sometimes they register with a solid press, and other times they’ll double-press or only half-register. That inconsistency makes the game think you’re constantly toggling the brake on and off in the background.
Meanwhile, my rudder pedals were also mapped to the brakes. That meant one control was permanently “holding” the brakes, while the other was trying to override it on the axis. The result? That weird “brakes on, brakes off” stuttering behavior.
Here’s the kicker: I spent $380 on a brand-new set of rudder pedals thinking my old ones were faulty. Turns out they were perfectly fine. All I had to do was go through my control bindings, delete any toggle/parking brake assignments on random buttons, and let the pedals handle braking on their own.
So if you’re stuck dealing with this, do yourself a favor: turn off toggle brake. Trust me, it’ll save you a lot of wasted time and money.
