Aircraft pre-positions at wrong end of the Runway

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

I choose to start at, for example, 09R and (before pressing ‘Ready to Fly’) ATC will tell me I’m cleared for 09R, but the plane will be pre-positioned ready to enter 27L. When you press Ready to Fly you are then positioned ready to take off at 27L. I was able to repeat this at Heathrow, London City and Biggin Hill.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

No.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:

I was using the Bonanza G36

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Only have SPAD.Next LVAR Bridge loaded.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Happened in every flight in the last session.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Plan a flight departing from the end of a Runway (no need to select an Arrival)
  2. Press Fly Now
  3. Observe ATC and plane positioning.
  4. Press Ready to Fluy

What’s the wind doing coz I know myself with live weather at my local airport it will send me into the wind everytime. This is also a setting in the settings from memory so maybe that’s somehow reverted (honestly at this point wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest)

Or its a genuine bug I have jumped off for today but will try replicate this tomorrow i have no add-ons in the UK so a base game plane should give me the same experience

I tried starting the flight at either end of the same runway, and at a runway that’s pretty much at right angles to the others (different airport nearby). It always started me at the opposite end. Would have thought ATC would also clear me to take off from the runway it was positioning the plane at if this was a decision by an algorithm, though ATC works so badly that’s probably not a useful indicator!

Next time I try it I’ll set the wind to zero manually.

SU2 BETA
Version: 1.4.10.0

I confirm this problem

After switching to real weather, where the active runway is 17, selecting runway 35 forces the departure from runway 17.

And there we go I’ll test tomorrow anyway to add more to the pool if it happens to me

Have you checked that the “ATC enforce Flight plan” option is enabled ?:

Yes, this option was disabled.

But it’s completely counterintuitive, if I don’t want assistance, it should only work if the user enables the option, not the other way around.

Now I’m completely confused, not knowing if there are other options I need to enable just to disable assistance. Like Unlimited Fuel or Wake Turbulence.
It doesn’t make much sense.

Note:

  • Where there is ATC, clearance messages refer to the wrong end.

  • With the option disabled, the assistance still works by placing the aircraft on the active runway according to the wind direction chosen in the custom options before starting the flight.

ATC Enforce Flight Plan was Off. I didn’t change this between 1.4.9 and 1.4.10 and the sim certainly didn’t do this before so presume that setting changed itself.
With ATC Enforce Flight Plan On it does choose the runway I set.
With ATC Enforce Flight Plan Off in the example I tried (09L/27R at EGLL) it chose the appropriate end for the weather (09L - unusually a strong Easterly wind at Heathrow today).
So, out of all that the only relatively minor point is that if ATC Enforce Flight Plan is Off and ATC chooses the other end of the runway, the ATC clearance messages refer to the wrong end.
One other oddity - if ATC has decided to use the other end, before you press Ready to Fly the aircraft charges off into the distance rather than manouevring to the correct start point on the runway. It even managed to crash the plane one time I tried it. When you press Ready to Fly it pops it neatly back to where its supposed to be.

Agree its a pretty obscure setting to just get the sim to do the flight you planned. But, I suppose the logic is that in the real world the pilot would be told which runway to use so you are choosing to simplify what happens by forcing ATC to run to the choice you made.

But the same thing happens at small airfields without ATC, you need to enable the option to disable this assistance.
