Aircraft Tail Numbers and Flight Log

I have two questions.

First, how do you purge your flight log?

Secondly, is it possible to save the Tail Number for each aircraft? Each time I load a plane, I have to go back and enter the tail number.

If I understand the question right, I thins that is the answer

I don’t think you can clear your flight log as it is cloud saved I believe. Curious, why would you want to clear it?

When I select a Plane, in the ATC pane – even though I’ve previously saved a Tail Number, the entries are all blank.

I would like to configure tail numbers for each of the planes, and have the Flight Simulator remember those tail numbers.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug, or if I’m not doing something correctly. I’ll look at the aircraft.cfg file to see if it may be a possible solution. I’m just surprised that MS doesn’t have a method to save this in-game vs., expecting people to edit files manually.

Thanks!

Actually,

The best solution would be to allow you to delete individual entries. There are times when I want to keep a log of actual IFR flights, etc., but then there are times that I’d goof-off – or allow someone else to try flying…and I don’t want those entries in the log…

Ah, that’s fair enough! I think the log could be a bit more optimized - separating more than just night/day flights. I’d love to see more in-depth details instead of using a third party program. Simple things like landing rate, which we already know is recorded, would be a nice addition.

I don’t think the tail plane number issue is a bug, just seems like something they forgot to implement.
There is no option in the sim to save it.

You can edit the aircraft.cfg file as suggested but I found mine got ovewritten again at some point and it blanked it out again. Worked for a few days though.

Not sure why they forgot to put in such an obvious thing but I expect it will be added at a later date if enough people ask for it.

You must do it in each aircraft type CFG file

I didn’t change aircraft, have been flying the Cessna 172 (steam gauge version) all the time.

Right. But unless you change the particular aircraft CFG file the ATC window only works until next load. Changing the CFG file will set the default tail number that the sim sees. Possibly the updates re write the original numbers back in. I am flying add on liveries in the community folder… that would explain why mine havent changed. Maybe copy the particular aircraft over and save the edited one there

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll look into it, but hopefully, MS will address this issue in the future.

I started using FsHub to track all my flights. Much more data tracked and you can delete out entries.

I found this on reddit, but I haven’t tried it yet:

Resetting the profile (including logbook) is possible, at least with the Steam version.Look for a file kh_logbook in the Steam program folder. Delete all files in that folder. Start FS with Cloud sync off (that can be configured in Steam). A new profile will be set up. Quit FS. Then change Steam settings back to Cloud sync and start FS again. Steam will complain that there is a conflict between the Cloud files and the local files and you can choose which ones you want to keep. Choose the new local settings and you are done.

Looks like you have to reset the whole profile unfortunately. Use at your own risk

I ā€œcopyā€ a particular aircraft in the community folder and modify aircraft.cfg there. The simulator uses the copied version when the aircraft is loaded, and never overwrites the file.
Actually I don’t make a copy of a whole aircraft folder. Just some folders, aircraft description files, aircraft.cfg (and cameras.cfg for my purpose) and a couple of JSON files is all one needs.

Not ending a flight, and using ā€œALT+F4ā€ instead, doesn’t commit anything to the log.

A CTD does the same thing.

I will wait with log editing, it use to work on FSX and one day it will work in FS2020
:pray:t2:

To the tailnumber: in the aircraft.cfg-file go to the line: atc_id = ā€œASXGSCā€ ; tail number. Change ASXGSC to your convenience. Save the aircraft.cfg file. Your new tailnumber will be used every flight from now on.

Changing aircraft config file is a clumsy workaround. It would be better if the hangar was useful for more than just pretties. So you could keep a number of planes with their tail numbers and liveries and then in the flight planning page choose a new aircraft (as it works currently) or an aircraft from your hangar.

And the reverse option choose the plane in the hangar and select ā€˜new flight with this plane’ to plan the flight.

I said that to a Geordie mate of mine who isn’t very computer literate. The reply can’t be quoted cos it’d all be *'s.
