All clickable in cockpit controls to be bindable to a button press

Please forgive me if someone else has posted this as a wish list item, I couldn’t find it.

I would like to see all controls that are in a plane that are clickable to be bindable, at least for all the aircraft that are provided by Microsoft as a part of the game purchase. I completely understand that purchasable aircraft it is up to the individual publisher to make those controls bindable.

It should not be the case that in order to run through a startup checklist on any of the default aircraft that I have to use a mouse to click on a control in the cockpit. Nor, do I think, should we be required to rely on 3rd party software to bind these controls. I should be able to bind them control to a button in my sim rig. I have more than enough buttons and ‘mode switches’ to be able to fully bind almost any plane in the game.

In this particular instance I’m speaking of specifically of the Cessna 208 B’s 3 way switch that controls the fuel pump (Boost, On, Off) although the wish applies to all default aircraft controls.

Shame. I just looked and those aren’t binds :frowning:. Depending on the type of controller you’re using (3D printed DIY box or consumer-grade flight sim panel) you might just need a 3rd party app to get full functionality.

I have a Logitech radio panel box and while the default drivers do work, they kinda suck and i’m pretty sure they crash my game.

Spad.next is pretty good and works with many models of panels. You can even program your yoke/stick with custom binds. It’s 25 pounds or euros or whatever but they have a 14-day trial. I found it worth the price, very handy to use and i’m going to toy with it so i can use the top half of my panel as a radio panel and the bottom half to control my MCP (since i don’t typically use ADF or DME selections).

I’m not looking for fully clickable cockpits. I’m looking for those controls that ARE clickable to also be Bindable to a button press or a toggle switch.

updated my post. Apologies i misinterpreted

Apparently there is some sort of wish list but I am unfamiliar with how to get on it or where it is. Does one “wish” to be on it?

I shall persist never the less and state my case, make of it what you will.

Currently there are dozens of aircraft functions, even in default planes, that have no keyboard shortcut that you can define, even if you really want to from the bottom of your heart. So, I propose;

  1. Each function of the aircraft must be mappable to a key, no exceptions. We have lots of keys, please allow us to use them.

  2. With the preferences the shortcuts must be broken down by aircraft, no profile nonsense which makes little sense and has all the functionality and usability of an APU in a Sopwith Camel.

  3. Third party developers should be required to follow a specific protocol so their aircraft show up in the preferences correctly with all of their resulting buttons and switches assignable to a key. Failure to do so requires a week on the naughty step or a week in Cornwall, either is preferable and equally heinous.

If it vexes some how a developer could be forced to do so such a thing so as make their product a joy to use it’s simple. No keymapping, then it won’t work in the simulator.

There are many toys in the world (such as Stream Deck) that lend themselves perfectly to use with FS2020 so, again, please allow us to use them, it’s not a lot to ask, in fact it’s hardly anything to ask at all. I will also say that it is completely preposterous that no mapping exists to turn on HDG on the autopilot… if it does I am unable to locate it having tried all of the heading shortcuts in the confusing mess of the keyboard preferences.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding during this difficult time for all.

In particular the managed and selected modes for alt/hdg/spd

I made suggestion this spring that was basically “Allow all cockpits controls to be bound by simply clicking on them with a mouse”, though unfortunately it got merged with an earlier thread that was suggesting mouse click binding in general, taking away half the suggestion.

I’ll vote for this though: fiddling with Axis and Oh’s and making few roughly complete custom script profiles has made me realize two things:

Adding better control options would be quite a low hanging fruit for Asobo, though I do realize they are overwhelmed with their sim and might not have time even for such.

Lots of users are probably putting lots of unnecessary duplicate effort for making this happen with third party programs.

How do you propose they do that? I mean, the big problem at the moment that many of the functions in cockpit don’t have corresponding entry in the control options. Either Asobo needs to add a mountain of potential entries in the control options or the plane developers should be able to add new options there (probably resulting with unnecessary clutter and duplication).

My suggestion was to largely replace the current system with the cockpit mouse click one, the system would have been based either on directly capturing the functions of the control being clicked or on having the the plane (or avionics etc.) developer set it up to a generic control that would then be bound with a click (e.g. the plane developer connects oil cooler lever to generic lever 8, since binding is done by mouse click rather than by browsing an index unified terminology is unnecessary).

Please allow us to map all the aircraft functions to key presses or buttons.

This would be a boon to home cockpit builders and would be greatly appreciated.

Example: The Asobo F/A-18E Hornet HUD brightness display and HMD brightness are not mappable.

So every time I get in the cockpit I have to revert to using the mouse to adjust those. This is

  1. Slow
  2. Immersion-breaking

(Thanks to the moderator for moving my post. This is the thread I was looking for!)
