All free flights default to IFR with ATC

Hi All,
I keep planning VFR flights both on the world map and EFB but they all start in the Sim with ATC telling me it’s IFR. Has anyone else noticed this and can I do anything about it? It’s just another immersion busting thing that’s bugging me.
Cheers

What happens if you set it to IFR?

I have the opposite problem where I cannot get the sim to act like I have set it to IFR and I never tried setting it to VFR to see if that worked.

(I can’t test for you, I refunded it.)

TL;DR: “start with ATC telling me it’s IFR”

Need more detail - plane/airport/plan and where/how is "ATC telling it is IFR

When I start in Cabri G2 from an uncontrolled airport, with filed VFR plan,

  • ATC panel shows “Tune to Traffic xxx.xx FD38” for example, then
  • Announce Taxi

That is VFR at an uncontrolled airport.

When I start in Cabri G2 from a controlled airport, with filed VFR plan

  • ATC panel shows “Tune to Automated Wx” and …
  • Tune to WX (that is procedure at a controlled airport)
  • ATC shows “Tune Ground”, “Tune Clearance”, “Ground Services”
  • Tune Ground
  • ATC shows “Tune Wx”, “Tune Clearance”, “Request Taxi - Depart x”…
    • “Request Taxi - Depart West”. For example
  • ATC clears you for “taxi and hold short, contact Tower when ready”
  • Acknowledge
  • Taxi to hold short spot
  • ATC shows "Request Takeoff Clearance VFR from Tower
  • ATC: “departure approved. Cleared takeoff runway ..”
  • Acknowledge
  • Take off
  • ATC: “continue west departure”
  • Continue till out of controlled airspace?

I quit at this point - don’t know when/if I would have received “Flight service terminated, continue own navigation”

If I create a flight plan on the web planner and save it I have to load it in the in game EFB. I then have to ‘File plan with ATC’ to allow me to start the flight. I’m not sure if that makes it IFR automatically? I can’t just Send Route to Avionics. So this seems to make every flight IFR.
If I just create the flight on the World Map, there’s no mention of IFR by ATC. Edit: actually this isn’t the case. I just tried another flight straight from the world map and was told flight was IFR by ATC.
That said, when I checked the EFB I had an ILS approach. So I have to go into the EFB and change it manually, then send to Avionics.
Or maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Think I’ll give the web planner a miss for now.
I tried saving the flight as an IFR and something strange happened and the GPS disappeared from the MFD map and flight plan. I’m not knowledgeable enough to know why this might have happened but it certainly didn’t work as I expected.

I don’t mind IFR flights I’m just puzzled why I’m being told it’s an IFR when I just want to tootle about.

All the game is broken dude… ATC…EFB… flight plan… IFS… and career mode.
I also found out another bug :
When you buy a used plane, you check it and it says it’s good about components. So you buy it for 1 600 000 credits.
Once you have it, you cant fly with it because it says many components are bad and you need to buy or repair them for 1 800 000 credits.
lol…

It may be that I just don’t understand the rules for IFR but I’m sure I’ve departed controlled airports before, and contacted ATC etc but not been told the flight was IFR. Maybe the game is a bit more advanced now and ATC know I’m going to need to fly IFR due to the plan I’ve made. Dunno.

Just to say; ATC tell me it’s an IFR flight right as the plane loads in at the runway and I get the ‘Ready to fly’ button.

How did you get that many credits dude? :joy: I only make about £10k a day.

Please explain what you mean “told the flight was IFR”?

Just realised it’s actually me (as in the co-pilot) that’s saying it. I didn’t twig as it’s a female voice. Nevertheless, I still created the flight as VFR but it’s changed into IFR. Maybe there’s good reason, I just don’t understand why.
My co-pilot says “Inverness tower, Cessna xxxx ready for departure runway 23, IFR to EG30.”

Where does the IFR come from? The flight plan is VFR, and I can’t see any reason why it would be an IFR flight.

Like I say, maybe it’s something I’m doing, or I’m misunderstanding something but it’s one of those things that’s bugging me a bit.

Just flew one. It’s just a VFR flight. No idea why the co-pilot says IFR.

First suggestion: Get rid of copilot
Second suggestion: Turn off ALL assistances! (Trust yourself)

You’ve got me thinking now. I’ve got AI assistance off (just double checked it and it’s definitely off for radio comms) So this female voice is mine. But this isn’t right either…
My character is definitely male with a male voice. So why is my character suddenly female? I just didn’t cotton on to this. That’s why I was thinking it was ATC talking. Need to investigate further…

Yeah that’s odd. Just checked my character. Defo male.
The female voice is called “You” in the subtitles, so it’s meant to be me speaking, not a co-pilot.
I guess that’s another bug then! :joy:

create a company, buy a plane and do “personnal” mission, not as salary.
You will need to pay an assurance (i take the medium one) then goooo.
You will make 10x more money minimum.
