Dear Asobo Studio and Microsoft Flight Simulator Team,
In MSFS 2020, it was possible to specify a custom installation path for all simulator data, including cache, streaming files, and the base installation. However, in MSFS 2024 (Steam version), the data seems to default to the C: drive without the option to move or consolidate it on a different drive.
This limitation is especially frustrating for users who prefer or need to store all simulator data on a larger secondary drive. Currently, splitting data across multiple drives is inefficient and can cause storage issues.
I kindly request that MSFS 2024 be updated to allow users to store all data—base installation, cache, streaming files, etc.—on a single drive of their choice. This level of customization was one of the strengths of MSFS 2020 and is crucial for efficient storage management.
I am not aware if the Microsoft Store version has the same limitation, but I hope the solution applies to all platforms.
Thank you for considering this enhancement, and I hope to see a resolution in a future update.
Best regards

Hi
In steam you can set it to install on a different drive (steam setting storage).
I then put in a new cache using the option in MSFS and I moved the community folder to a different location using the MSFS options. So they all live on my F drive (once full of 2020 mods and now a barren landscape)
I also installed Steam to that drive as well - but you don’t have to have the client on the same drive as the games.

Wait, you can’t specify a custom package path like we used to do in MSFS during the first installation screen? (or by editing the user.cfg)
edit: just saw it was still possible to edit the packages path into the user.cfg
The idea with this sim is that you don’t have the dumb second install thing. Everything comes in a single 12gb package. You can specify where that lands via the xbox app on pc or steam. Within the sim, you can specify a location for the cache on any drive installed in the system. The community folder can also be moved in a similar manner.
To clarify the issue: while it’s possible to move the community folder and the rolling cache to another drive, the remaining folders stored on the C: drive cannot be relocated.

For performance reasons should rolling cache and the packages folder always be on the same drive?
