Altitude Limits After Latest Update

Hi, I am playing on a PC with the microsoft store version on non development mode and now it seems I am limited to only 65,000 feet of altitude where in previous versions of the sim I could get over 100K feet. It seems that when I approach 65K feet the altitimeter just kind of pauses and doesnt asend any further until I approach a stall then it sort of creeps up to 68-70K feet and that’s it. What has happened to cause this limitation now?

Please forgive me if this is posted somewhere else, I did a quick search and didnt find anythign else about this matter.

There is no Aircraft in the sim which can reach FL650. How do you get there without dev mode?

If done right, you can briefly get the F-18 to FL710 for about 5 seconds, then down you go.

I have the paid Euro Typhoon fighter and it was before the update climing well over 100K feet. It will hit mach 2.0 at sea level and then just pull back vertical and before the update would easily climb past FL650

Maybe they corrected the Flightphysics with that Update somehow?
F18 has a max Altitude of FL500 and the Euro Typhon FL550.

For cruise, yes, for a zoom climb, no.

Just as a side note, in 1959 the MD F-4 test bird zoom climbed to over 98,000 feet. You can’t stay there, but it’s fun getting there! :grinning::grinning:

Reaching FL445, engines spools down to nearly idle without flaming out, IAS drops by at least 50% and lift seems to drop as abruptly. I’ve tested this with the three aircraft I have that are capable of reaching this altitude (CJ4, Longitude and F/A-18).

It seems that after SU7, there is some discontinuity in the atmospheric behavior at a little over FL445.

Noted this issue on build 1.21.13.0

ZenDesk ticket: 136937

None of those planes are technically capable of flying at those altitudes to begin with. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. The issues you experience are fairly consistent when flying above your limits. Engines are only capable of sucking up so much oxygen and wings can only provide so much lift before the conditions. Let me ask you a question, whats your angle of attack in these planes at FL445 (the angle of aircraft pitch in relation to the horizon)?

However I can see it being an issue once a Concorde has been released since that generally travels at FL600. Does the 747 have this issue since it’s the only plane in the game that’s actually capable of reaching those altitudes?

I know the Longitude can hit 45k but I haven’t gone that high too often. Also, my conditions were much likely different than yours.

The issue is due to the temperature spiking to 223C, it only appears to occur with Live Weather though, so likely an injection issue.

787 can hit 43k

You are missing the point. Before the update, it was possible to struggle to get to those altitudes. Now we hit a numerical discontinuity, a clear algorithmic error. I’m not discussing airplane performance, I’m discussing software quality.

pity…had the Spit up at FL460, but then…

I agree, regardless of aircraft performance before the sim update you could reach well over 100K now it will get to about 66K and just PAUSE any climb. It’s a sim algo problem as the person stated. Do we need to open a ticket or a complaint to get this on the fix list or what? How do we get them to address the issue of high altitude flight now?

It’s not about if the plane can technically do it, it’s about the fact that before this update I was able to take the eurfightwr to Mach 2 and go straight up through 100K then stall and ruble back down. It’s not about discussing aircraft here it’s about the sim refusing to honor someone who no matter how has managed to achieve that altitude in which makes it a problem regardless of the aircraft the sim should support it. It used too and then it stopped so that means it’s broken.

Apologies.

Yeah I like taking my 787 to the karmen line and watching it free fall to mach 7 before bouncing 3 miles back in the air as much as the next person, but it’s not something I do every time i fire up the sim. No judgement if that’s your thing but i’m not sure why we’re crying over something that makes sense to happen.

But like i said, no judgement if trying to break the game intentionally is your plan. I may not agree with your methods for having fun, but i’ll defend to the death your right to enjoy the game as you see fit

WT CJ4 has a limit of FL450 (according to WT’s Simbrief profile).
I can’t reach that altitude, climb abruptly stops at 44600 ft, also airspeed drops instantly way below 100 kt IAS and aircraft sinks. Once sunken about 1000 ft climbing starts again, but only up to 44600 ft.
I first thought, there was something wrong with my setup of the WT CJ4, but then found this thread.
