Am I the only one stuck at "Press any button to start" after downloading 1.19.8.0?

Are there others here who could not get past the “Press any button to start” screen after successfully downloading the latest 1.19.8.0? (MS Store version, Community folder empty, Developer mode off)

If you have the same problem and have a solution, please share. Thanks.

List of things already done (recommended by zendesk ticket #123916):
1- All latest Windows 10 updates applied.
2- All MS Store Updates applied. Signed out.
3- Time settings synchronized, Region properly set.
4- Logged out of Xbox App.
5- Logged out of Xbox Console Companion App.
6- Xbox App and Xbox Console Companion App uninstalled.
7- Computer rebooted.
8- Signed in MS Store.
9- Xbox App reinstalled, signed in.

  • MSFS launched from Xbox App.
Failed to get past “Press any button to start” screen.

Additional steps:
1- All Xbox Services set to Automatic running.
2- Xbox Live credentials reset.
3- Xbox Identity Provider installed
4- Gaming Services reinstalled.
5- Computer rebooted.
Failed to get past “Press any button to start” screen.

I have the same problem. Have no idea what can be done beside full uninstall the game and reinstall once again.

I would try this:

  1. Settings, Apps, scroll down to MS Flight Simulator
  2. Click Uninstall.
  3. MS Store
  4. MS Flight Simulator, Click Install

See if this helps…

I have the same issue since 2 weeks, After one week off the flight simulator stuck in a loop. I was two times in touch with the x box support. They was unable to fix this issue. I already did uninstall / reinstall all xbox stuff and the Winstows store via powershell. I also uninstall / reinstall the flight simulator 4 times. Furthermore, I moved the game from H:drive to C:drive in the “Apps and Features” no success. I also follow all step described from Top 999 gun.

I hope that someone figure out a solution for this issue. It is ridiculous to have such a complicated platform to start a game.

I had this same problem. I struggled for hours and finally found some combination of the following that worked. I can’t give you a step by step because I had to do this 3 times. It fixed twice and only stuck on the 3rd try:

  1. No amount of Login to Xbox app etc made any difference as you’ve noted, but you do need to be logged in.
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Reset the XBox app and Also Repair
  4. Repair the Flight Simulator

Some of the apps do not have a “Repair” option. I performed the Reset and Repair on all apps that had something to do with FS. I didn’t “Reset” the simulator because I feared it would require more downloads, etc.

This permanently fixed my problem except you may notice my post (after replying here) that I have a chronic problem with download and decompress with one of my 2 installatins.

These are issues that drive me crazy - I had no problems after the update. Right now I run FS, and - for whatever reason - the old, long forgotten “Press any key to continue” is back in the game. When pressing a key, the Xbox Login opens, and even though being logged in, I too can’t get out of this loop.

For heaven’s sake…MS, get your ■■■■■■ store environment straight!

Nothing has helped me to bringing back FS2020 to live. I have uninstalled the game and then tried to install it but I was unable to do that. MS Store didn’t respond to instal button. At least I had to reinstall windows 10. Something was messed up with it.

I eventually had to spend a good 5 hours to uninstall, reformat the SSD drive on which MSFS was installed, and reinstall to get it working again…

How frustrated and disappointed for what should have been just a routine World Update :frowning:

This issue is really annoying and still occuring. On my system this always occurs after someone else used the PC with a different windows account. If I am the only user of the system between several shutdown/startup cycles there is no problem.

When the message "Press any key"occurs, I kill Flightsumulator in Taskmanager and then reboot the PC. Afterwards Flightsumulator launches correctly for me.

I assume it might probably help to turn off the hibernation shutdown (Fast Startup), but didn’t try it yet. Hopefully it will help anyone.

Happy flying!

Interesting, just had a single occurrence of this loop. Left it with Alt-F4 and on next startup was greeted with this little dialog:

It seems to be fine now.

I’m on steam (luckily) and I have no idea what brought it on. I was in the sim just minutes earlier, had exited it and was restarting it.

I had the same problem when I deleted all the xbox liveries in content manager. I have steam version, so I edited all the files in offical/steam that said deleted, & changed them from delete.0 to 01, & the game started.

I have had this problem. Which versions of MSFS are you using eg deluxe?

If you are using an upgraded version, find that in your Microsoft store and Launch this version NOT the standard package. This fixed it for me (after days of failures)

Now I seem to be able to launch successfully at will…

To be honest, I work a full day, come home and want to relax. I don’t want to deal with “Push any button” issues, or anything else like that. I’m really tempted to just delete the game (from my computer and my memory) and move on to watching movies or reading books. It’s been one problem after another with this product. I’ll wait a couple of days, then maybe free up some space on my computer. Maybe reinstall FS X.

Did you get this issue sorted? Despite my post above, the loop thing has returned once again with a vengeance and I have no idea what I can do to break out of it.

It still occurs for me also. It usually helps to reboot the system (not shutdown and start - real reboot). Once I even struggled after a reboot. I logged off Windows Store and XBox-App, rebooted, logged back in in both. Then it MSFS launched fine again. It’s not easy to sort out the reason. No hints in any logs.

Same problem here, community folder is empty too.. nothing has worked, signed out of xbox app, store app, back in, same thing.

Guys, I had this issue when trying to just launch flight simulator, and I just managed to resolve it, I managed to get in once at least so far! In xbox app I selected my version specifically that I have (premium deluxe) from the dropdown and then clicked on ‘play’ and it let me in. Could it be that when we are encountering this issue we are attempting to launch the wrong version?

Confirmed,

Im having the exact “Press any button” problem with steam version after last update.

All the xbox apps have been reinstalled, logged in/out, windows updated etc… After uninstall and reinstalling the initial MSFS client from steam, I am no longer able to launch the game or update it.

The only thing left is the freaking launch video and “Press any button” loop.

Stream version, having this issue now. Any advice is welcomed! I’m trying to do a reinstall currently and can’t get past this screen.

This problem is so frustrating. This is the second time it’s happened. Not sure what I did to get it to work the first time, but nothing seems to work now. I guess I’ll try again next month. Please upvote this thread if you’ve had this problem.
