Your thread title says “SU3” – you may want to change that to SU4 if that’s what you mean.
Moderator edit: Thanks - Title updated.
Also I experiencing this bug in SU4. The symptom is audio cracking but one or more threads completely bricks to 100% and can temporarily freeze the system and even stutter audio from other applications.
Widely voted on in other threads. My theory is an issue with the engine / main thread when latency issues or streaming delays come from the CDN. If you are going to test - PLEASE DO SO ON A PUBLIC BUILD FROM DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AWAY FROM A CDN. You will likely not experience this issue on private dev builds or with different network paths to/from the CDN.
I also noticed stuttering, with the audio stutter already starting while the flight is loading. In my case, it appeared after installing SU4.
Ryzen 97 9800X3D, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 6000
I also use similar specs: 7800X3D, 4070, 64GBs DDR5 6000M/T. Having same issue with noise crackles etc. not stutters but just constant audio popping and cracks.. been happing for many updates e.g. RC1 - SU4 beta.
I think i found the issue. I am not sure if it stays to be fixed but i now had a very smooth flight, one of the most smoothest i ever had.
I noticed that my rolling cache was at 0.0. I tried to change the directory but after every save it turned back to the original route which is not the default root. Also reset everything to default changed all settings except of the route of the rolling cache. Strange thing is that the only thing which was working was to put the rolling cache route to the default C/%Appdata/Roaming/MSFS2024 location. Only then it kept it saved after clicking on save and exit. Then the sim was generating the rolling cache. After that i was able to change it to any location i wanted and was able to change the size of the file which i put on 32 gb.
Now my sim is butter smooth. So maybe for all people who have the peaks in the CPU. Check your rolling cache and delete it to let it rebuild. Mine was not present at all, so i flew all the time without it.
I deleted the rolling cache, then I set it to 16GB, and after some time I increased it to 96GB. It didn’t help at all.
So after a while I am back at this topic. I am now flying and i have the stutter and audio cracking again and i notice a pattern.
In the past month since i “Fixed” it I always flew from Salzburg to Greece or Spain and from The Netherlands to the UK, Denmark and Spain. Those flights all have one thing in common. They don’t cross central Germany in cruise.
Now I am flying from Salzburg to Dusseldorf, after a rotation flight Salzburg to Kos and back without any issue and now I get the audio cracks and stutters again and guess where I am of course. Over Central Germany! It almost looks like that this could be related to the whole reason why I left MSFS 2020 due to the high temperatures spikes which everybody reported which also occurred over one particularly area in the world which was central Germany.
I did not close my sim after the rotation to Kos and there was no issues whatsoever on that rotation. But now to Dusseldorf it is unplayable and so annoying. I strongly believe there is something wrong with central Germany again. As when I dig back in my memory when i was creating this post i was flying from Greece to Brussels which also passes Central Germany and over there it started back then as well.
With the latest beta build it is back. And again it happen near Munich (East of Munich) coming out of Austria
I was experiencing something similar a few weeks ago on SU3, no matter what aircraft or where I was flying. Could be coincidence, but I seemed to have resolved it by removing my +200 PBO clock offset. Makes sense, was probably getting some clock stretching or something.
Now it’s suddenly back on my current flight on the new SU4 build, after several flights on both SU3 and several SU4 builds with no issues. Only thing different is I’m flying somewhere I never have before.
From LOWG to EGSS, currently over Germany.
Edit: And it seems to have cleared up a bit after crossing into the Netherlands
Going back to 2020 there has been some kind of performance issue in central Germany. I think it may have to do with the Photogrammetry from the World updates. Not sure if it’s the PG in general or some specific area that’s not optimized, but in both 2020 and 2024 my cpu and gpu end up working noticably harder when flying in those areas.
I will check this out as i also have PBO 200 MHZ enabled. But i am worried as you mentioned even with disabling it is back.
Currently i am again flying over Germany and again it started. What i also noticed is in my internet throughput information is it visible that it is very inconsistent. I have no clue if it has something to do with it, but when there is a audio stutter i see the internet usage go up
I just upgrade to windows 11 and HAGS caused me all sorts of stutters and sound cracking, shut it off it went away. I did not have this in windows 10
I have this issue since i “upgraded” from Win 10 to Win 11 regardless which Sim Version. But lately it has again become more worse than ever before. This is just a small clip from my recent Flight. It started when the weather got worse and i reached a complexes area (Sao Paulo). Takeoff and cruise in almost clear skies was fine. It’s so frustrating and basically unflyable.
I’ve been having this for months, from SU3 and also on SU4 - even though I find that SU4 has improved it overall, even so, when it spikes up to 100% the sim stutters and sounds pop. Happens more in heavy aircraft compared to a GA, but doesn’t matter what part of the world I’m flying.
I never got this in 2020, nothing like this at all, and yet in 2024? Damnnnnn, it’s worse
I wish we could go back to what 2020 had and put it into 2024 XD
I have had exactly the same problem in MSFS 2020 on Windows 11 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080.
The stutters with sound cracks would appear every minute and last for less than a second.
I have an MSI Mainboard and in the BIOS I disabled “X3D Gaming Mode” (not to be confused with the “Game Boost” setting, which I also have turned off).
Once I disabled the “X3D Gaming Mode” in the BIOS, I have done 4 flights with over 10 hours of flight time in total and I all my stuttering disappeard. I did not have a single sound cracking issue during these 4 flights, even though all my in-game setting stayed the same.
Could it be the same issue?
