AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 causes massive stutters

Whenever I use the Adrenaline 24.9.1 or the just released 24.10.1 drivers and I turn on AFMF 2, I get massive stutters in Flight Simulator. Not just over cities, but sort of everywhere. I’m playing in 4k Ultra, vsync off, cache off, DX11. Adrenaline reports that the frame rate itself is pretty okay, but the frame times and the microstuttering is all over the place.

When I revert back to the 24.8.1 driver, the last one with version 1 of AFMF, everything is OK again and the stutters disappear, although some stutters still remain, but hey, it’s Flight Simulator. It also does not matter if i switch to DX12 or lower textures or resolutions, the stutters remain. Also, playing around with AFMF 2 settings like High or Performance does not matter at all.

I thought AFMF 2 would be better? Anyone else experiencing this?

My build:
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Radeon 7800 XT 16 GB
32 GB DDR4 3600
Windows 11 24H2

I cannot say if the issue, for me, is with AFMF.

For awhile now I have been seeing sim sessions where I get a stutter of the same intensity/duration every few seconds. It’s almost like clockwork how they come at me.

The cure? Quitting and restarting the sim.

I don’t change my settings, I don’t quit background tasks, I just quit and restart MSFS and it’s good.

Again, though, I don’t know if this is related to AFMF.

First thing I would recommend is to ensure some of your Windows files are not corrupted by using the Win 11 system file checker (SFC)

Are you using P42 tools? If yes uninstall them

AMD FMF2 on here. But before I take off I go to the outside view of the aircraft and pan around. This will cause some stutters and hiccups , but after keeping on panning all goes smooth and , voila! all will be fine. just try this. p.s, I use DX12 and have switched off Freesync.

Can I ask if it looks like what I’m experiencing? Watch Microsoft Flight Simulator_replay_2024.10.19-21.42 | Streamable

I did just get SimFX from P42 and I was going to try running without it to figure if that was the issue… Can I ask how you know that that is the issue? For me, the problem with testing it is that the issue always goes away with a restart, and does not happen all the time. I can’t nail any particular factor for when and where it happens unfortunately.

My system:
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Radeon 6800XT (driver 24.8.1)
32GB DDR5 6000
Windows 10

Of course, you may!

I have not turned on Developer Mode nor run any sort of FPS or other overlay tool and monitored it that way. Also, with your aircraft completely stationary, the scene ends up looking differently than mine given I have carried on taxing and taking off.

What I am getting at, is it seems extremely similar to what I am experiencing. It is just that the way you’re presenting it via the Dev Mode overlay and the way I am observing it via just moving through the world in a traditional fashion that makes it a little difficult to say it is identical.

Again, though, it seems like the same thing.

I do get the same issue while the aircraft is moving, here’s a takeoff I had with the same issue but even worse, perhaps because I was using the Fenix A320 instead of the FBW. Unfortunately no clips without the overlay.

Yes, that looks very similar. Do you see any variation in the frequency of the stutters? I think most often mine are spaced a bit further apart than what I seeing with your two examples.

I spent hours in dev mode to check every single plane and tools.
SimFX cause huge stuttering on my configure. 5800x3d and 6900xt

Bottleneck could be a cause too

It’s usually about every 2s apart, I think the furthest apart I’ve seen it is maybe 5s spacing. Do you have SimFX as well?

Alright, thanks for the heads-up, I’ll run a few flights with it uninstalled and see if the issue reoccurs.

I do not have that.

Hmm that makes it a bit odd, for me the issue has disappeared for the past few hours of flying after uninstalling SimFX. I have to assume it relates to how SimFX works, perhaps you have some addon that is similarly interacting with MSFS to cause the issue. Perhaps you could check with the DevMode overlay next time to see if you see similar spikes with the Manipulators.

For now, I am sending a support ticket to //42 to see if they can resolve this, fingers crossed.
