Been curious to know what others with AMD based computers have been using and their results with FSR2. With TAA being the most reliable in all instances both with and without DX11/12, I thought maybe changing to FSR2 would offer some enhancements and allow me to better utilize my system and graphics. I’m running an AMD Ryzen Radeon RX 6650M with 8GB VRAM along with the latest driver of
22.20.29.07-221110a-385749C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition
Using the PMDG if I have any other setting set besides performance I get the shiny twinkles on all my displays. Only remaining annoyance is that when changing dials and knobs like the MCP or light statuses extinguishing or turning on, there’s a “fade” effect or ghosting? as they call it? Setting is DX12 with performance and sharpening of 100. Anyone else see any more noticeable performance between using TAA and FSR2 and do I have everything set correctly? My AMD Adrenaline has all the settings turned off for the graphics and game setting as I read somewhere that it was no long required and that the game would take care of it. Thank you in advanced.
Honestly, I don’t see any improvement in FPS which remain the same with the TAA setting, but the graphics noticeably worsen especially if set to Ultra Performance.
I also thought that with my system, I5 4460 +AMD RX 5700 the FRS2 didn’t work at all. I also opened a Topic about it but no one answered, it seems that it’s only me who has this problem.
Yet this new FSR 2 feature should be considered as much as Nvidia’s DLSS, but in fact nobody seems to use it.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah haven’t heard anything about it. I guess most people are just happy with what they have set before it became released. I suppose with DX12 still in beta it isn’t really a feature that has full potential yet. One thing I have noticed is that graphics have the ghosting effect if I have it on. With AI traffic the tails will have a sort of melting effect. Knobs in the PMDG and display lights will fade in and out instead of instant turning off or on, which works just fine with TAA. Currently still on FSR2 but as I type this I was seeing that tail effect sitting at MCI and I think it also has a not so great affect on graphics/textures in general.
I confirm the ghosting effect and the degradation of the internal instruments display less evident in Quality Mode almost absent, but not having benefits in performance that are identical to TAA I prefer not to activate FSR 2.0, if only there were, like some videos I’ve seen, 10 /20 FPS more with FSR 2.0 activated would make sense but for me nothing to do no benefit.
I could try reinstalling the sim but downloading 130 GB again I don’t want to, after all even so in DX12 and TAA it already runs very well.
Good evening.
Here’s a neat reinstall trick, go to your MSFS install directory, copy the onestore folder somewhere else. When you reinstall only download like 1%, close it, copy your onestore backup into the new install directory, it’ll load up.
For FSR to really shine, turn off RSR. Turn on VSR.
put all settings to ultra or as high as your GPU can take .
set the sliders to 100 for details
turn FSR to Quality
put your resolution one step above your native screen resolution
so if your monitor is is 1080 make the ingame resolution as 1440p. if its 1440p, make it 2140p and if its 2140p keep it at that
Also make sure you use Radeon Performance tuning to overclock and undervolt your GPU.
Going from TAA ultra to FSR ultra i get a 20-40% fps boost and the boost is higher the higher i go with VSR
Will try this out. My native resolution is 1920X1080, my tuning is locked, can’t change it. Will turn on VSR and report back here shortly.
I turned on Virtual Super Resolution in display settings and Radeon Super Resolution is off in graphics setting. The next step up is 2560x1440 and FSR is quality. Had to change it to performance to get rid of the twinkling in PMDG. But framed are locked at 60-62 at my test airport. Loading up at a addon airport I am getting 54-56.
What do you mean by the higher you go with VSR?
Thanks but unfortunately even setting as recommended by you I got no improvement in performance, not even 1 FPS more, indeed setting the VSR I lost some FPS.
I don’t know what could be causing FSR 2.0 to not work anymore.
I guess I’m the only one whose FSR doesn’t work at all.
Here I set VSR to 2560X1440 (my monitor is 1920X1080)
FSR 2.0 active on Balanced = 32 FPS
Here the same but in TAA = FPS 32
The few times I tried FSR, my frame rates tanked from 55-60 down to sub 20fps, my 8 GB 6600XT started being reported as 6 GB physical and 9 GB utilized (in the sim’s monitor), and graphics frame time went purple. Been searching for possible answers or fixes off and on ever since SU11 came out, but I can only find one other report of this happening (in a bug report thread on here, which I added to). I’m about ready to try reinstalling the sim, but I kinda have my doubts.
I actually did a fresh install not too long ago. Thankfully my Uncles wifi is about 4 times faster than back home so it only took 2 hours instead of 6+. Before I was getting some micro stutters and that was probably residual from playing around with turning FSR off and on and whatever else I meddled with. Everything runs smooth now but since FSR and DX12 are still in beta? I don’t think there’s any real advantage. Supposedly after SU11 if you just scale your game resolution down from your screens native resolution it should auto activate that feature. I did notice with FSR on I would get these weird borders on the edge of textures and when switching views or back in game there’d be some kind of weird texture flicker and I could see a change in the ‘clarity’. Things also looked grainy or like there was a screen mesh overlayed on everything. Hard to explain.
