AMD or Intel thinking about getting an AMD processor over an Intel

Hi there, I am thinking about getting a new AMD Processor…This is my first AMD processor… For years I have only been using Intel and thought that I would give AMD a chance…Any thoughts? Any info or help is greatly appreciated. TA

Awhile ago I would have said AMD X3D series as well, and probably still will. Problem is, with 2024 a few months out, there may not be a need to upgrade (assuming you are upgrading only for MSFS).

The hope (which is obviously not a plan) is that it better utilizes the CPU power most of us have (more core distribution).

I currently have an AMD 5950X, waiting to see what 2024 does with it before moving over to an X3D.

It really is personal preference. I tend to prefer nvidia and intel. But i do like the x3d chips that amd do as well.

Depends on the current setup. Most of the time you’re going to need a mobo and ram too. Which will usually result in upgrading everything.

And 2024 is going to be running a huge amount of new content, objects, and capabilities on XB. I’m sure it was also CPU choked by the old game. So if you’re currently at or around XBSX capabilities it may be worth waiting. Unless of course you want new stuff and feel the time has come regardless. Guys have their makeover montage moments too. Full new gaming PC, new car, fresh full overhaul of your rechargeable tool empire, etc.

Oh, and what’s your current PC specs?

In THEORY, MSFS being engineered to work with XB and it’s AMD architecture would make sense to be more favorable to AMD. However, the AMD GPU’s haven’t lived up to potential yet. It will be interesting to see if the 7900XTX sees improvements in 2024. It really should be a hero card for this game. They haven’t even unleashed the 7800X3D(or any CPU) yet either.

There could be all kinds of setups that see marked improvements in performance. Even current GPU’s that seem to be straining with 2020 may be just fine in 24.

At the moment I just have an Intel I7, on an Laptop I was thinking about building my own PC with the AMD and whatever components I need to build an Gaming PC as the laptop isn’t really doing a very good job… Always overheating
I didn’t realize how demanding the Sim would be…
