Driver freeze GPU 9070 XT on my RIG, so back to 25.12.1
The 26.1.1 was also not working for me, esp in RoadCraft both 26.x.1 drivers crashed
All driver before 26.1.1 was 100% stable in all games, didn’t understand AMD
I’m also using the 9070XT and 26.1.1 was perfectly stable for me. I installed 26.2.1 yesterday and so far no issues. I would suggest you run DDU in safe mode if you haven’t already done so.
@RogueNaught1 thanks for the tip. I used DDU in safe mode and it seems to work for msfs 2024 now.
Has the terrible shadow sawtoothing been improved/fixed for 90 series cards?
For your info, maybe you can test it. I installed the 25.12.1 drivers again, because RoadCraft didn’t run with both 26.x.1 driver.
I observed a way lower time in the msfs 2024 graphics que with these driver, it is around 14 ms versus 24 ms with the 26.2.1 driver. I didn’t make a screenshot from 26.2.1 but one from 25.12.1
This is at Vancouver airport. With the 26.2.1 driver I got way more stutter and less fps.
So for me the driver is bad and I will stay at 25.12.1 until they are fixed or another good reason for these drivers occur.
I have no idea what the reason is, just install the 25.12.1 driver nothing changed in msfs 2024, so I guess it’s a driver problem.
PS: What CPU you use? My AMD 3900 X is already old, maybe the 26.x.1 driver are optimized for last generation CPU?
If, like me, you’re experiencing poor results with the 26.x drivers (tearing, a slight flickering effect), I recommend disabling the options in Adrenaline that enable FSR REDSTONE (they have “ML” in their name (upscaler and framegen). This brings us back to FSR 3… since msfs don’t officially support FSR Redstone.
In my case I have the RX 9070XT with the Ryzen 9800X3D 64GBs. I couldn’t locate your exact position at Vancouver airport or what aircraft you’re flying but here is my result. I’m not capping my frame rate and FG is off. MT was around 9 ms but climbed a bit when taking the snapshot
I don’t adjust anything in Adrenaline. It might be because 26.x is geared towards the series 9000 but can’t be sure.
btw… Whenever I’m updating my drivers I first perform a clean uninstall of the old ones using DDU in safe mode to be sure the installation is as clean as possible.

Have had some alt-tab problems and some issues running browser videos at the same time on the second screen with 26.1.1, I updated to 26.2.1 and now every 10 minutes or so I get a pause for about 15 seconds. Its almost like something times out, the GPU utilization goes to almost nothing and the frame rate monitor in the adrenaline app freezes. The first clue is the fan speed drops to nothing. I haven’t found anything specific that sets it off. It happens fully 100% stock with every plane I have tried in various locations.
The freezing only started with 26.2.1 and SU5 1.7.7. I shouldn’t have done both at the same time, but I have since reinstalled the sim and its still happening so on troubleshoot the drivers. When it comes back, whatever I clicked on will have been clicked and any control surface input will be as if I held it for the time it was paused… and even if I don’t touch anything the plane flips out rather hilariously, unless you are on a career mission, then its hilariously expensive.
Anyone have any pausing like that? Is it even likely that its driver related? Is it better to downgrade to 25.x.x anyway?
I would downgrade, asap. Most of the optimization is 9xxx special. So use the last stable driver for your 7900 card. I own a 9700 XT and use 25.12.1 because msfs performance is worse, not fluid and RoadCraft crashes with both 26.x.x drivers
I tried the downgrade (DDU and all), the freezing experience was the same - which freezing wasn’t a problem when I was using those drivers a few weeks ago. I also tested other games but the freeze is not happening anywhere else. Perhaps its not a driver problem after all.
Its not an active pause button press or anything either, just a freeze of the app, the rest of the computer is humming away fine. Videos play normally, no hitch when the sim stops or starts, if I am using external apps, they keep running normally as well. Task manager shows msfs2024 goes to 0%, ram stays stationary and my gpu % drops to minimal.
The solution might be a matter of waiting until the next SU5 beta drop, in the meantime I will attempt to reset things by deleting the WGS folder, I saved that after reinstall so I didn’t have to redo all my controls, but troubleshooting increasingly painfully continues!
Thank you for your advice!
For what its worth, I have the 9070XT and have had no issues with the 26.2.1 or 26.2.2. That said, the release notes appear to indicate more issues with the 7000 series so perhaps its best to stick with 25.12.1 for that series until they resolve some of those issue.
