[An idea] Asobo aquires the most interesting 3rd party addons to embed them permanently in the sim

For example by acquiring airport / runway graphics enhancement addon from Zinertek and embed in to the sim core for everyone. This would provide to Asobo very fast non-labourous way get new features and ‘beef up’ the updates for all user base.

This business model would be very beneficial for all parties involved.

Tbh I don’t want most of the addons that are produced, either directly by Asobo or from 3rd parties.

Bundling them up in the sim just adds to the complexity of updates, gives a lot of people stuff they don’t actually want and deters 3rd parties.

Not bundling with the sim but embed the most relevant 3rd party content in the sim permanently in the core - like this enhanced runway graphics could be. They would cease to be addons and become permanent content of the sim.

  1. There’s a huge number of 3rd party content creators. Certalinly something like thousands.
  2. Do you thing content like World Updates for example, are provided by in-house Microsoft Asobo dev.? Gaya (formely known as what you call a 3rd party content provider) is now widely involved in all World Updates  Have a look at MSFS official partners and you’ll discover that what you wish is already happening.
  3. As the DNA of MSFS is too stay an open architecture, you’ll always get someone wanted to enhanced what has been done by whatever “most relevant 3rd party content”

Do you remember the first time you look at runway texture of MSFS? Do you have immediately the idea that “oh it could be easily enhanced!”. We could have stay with the core content if Microsoft/Asobo didn’t allow us to easily change a lot of things by just droping files in the Community folder.

And frankly speaking I appreciate that, just to take a single example, we may have the choice to have two addons to enhance the trees colors and density among year’s season.

First question is…
What is “most relevant 3rd party content”?

I will bet that if this thread gets traction you will find a few dozen definitions posted. What is relevant to you may not be something I want. The whole point of 3rd party mods is the ability to use it if it enhances YOUR experience and leave it if it doesn’t. You may really like a new “enhanced” runway texture, while I think it is worse than the default.

The current “business model” allows individual users to decide what enhancements they want incorporated into their personal “base core” of the sim. In a community that can’t even agree on how the wind affects an aircraft, the last thing we need is someone else’s vision of an improvement being foisted upon us. I vote we let the developer determine what their vision is and look for a mod if we don’t like it.

The only mod I would embed is add-on linker… (Ok, and pushback helper…)

I agree !
and I only want them to FIX all the issues and glitches that should have worked properly when MSFS was released. Seems the $MarketPlace$ takes so much precedence these days.

They already did this with Working Title, no reason it couldn’t happen again.

“Relevant” is relative. What someone else may consider indispensible I may consider to be useless rubbish.

WT is no longer considered to be 3rd party. They are now a partner. Asobo simply realized their expertise in a particular area and deferred to that expertise. This is the same as the pre-existing partnerships that give us weather, traffic, scenery and nav data.

In future there may be additional partnerships added, but 3rd party is just that, developers working outside the development of the sim. I would prefer they stay that way. That is where innovation happens.
