Was attempting to a fly a Cessna 172G 1000 in the game, a plane which I highly like and even got a stability mod for and I can’t find those switches.
I need them, because I’m flying here in Michigan and it’s cold up in the air and I didn’t want my wind shield freeze up and can’t see… anybody wanna help out here?
Reckon that’s not rated for icing conditions (meaning the systems don’t exist). The SR22 has deicing systems, though - not my favorite plane, but it does work for those winter flights up here in the Midwest.
My understanding is that they are in the sim because they are not in the real world 172. You should not fly through clouds when temps are low to avoid icing, like in the real world. Correct me if I have been misinformed.
Pretty sure the C172 is supposed to have windshield defrost when applying cabin heat. IRL that is, probably not modeled in the game. The plane is most definitely not equipped to fly in icing conditions, in the game or IRL.
Your options are to pick a plane that has de-icing, stay low and out of clouds (not always possible), or fly at a different location where icing isn’t an issue.
The only small GA plane I’m aware of in MSFS that has full de-icing capability is the DA62.
That would help to an extent IRL, but not quite enough. But the 172 still isn’t rated for flying into icing conditions.
It’s a fluid de-icer, so it doesn’t last. You can clear the windshield and run the weeping-wing long enough to get lower but I still stay out of winter clouds in that one.
Indeed. Either get above or below the clouds and you’re fine. You’ve only got a finite amount of de-icing fluid, so running it constantly is not recommended.
