I am interested in increasing immersion when flying the pmdg 737-600 by adding some crew and pax audio, as with the FBW A32nx. I think i identified a couple of options:
PACX: seems no longer actively developed
FS2crew: more than just audio and not sure if it adds pax audio
Can someone comment on those two or recommend another option?
PACX works fine - it was last updated around last August but it works so not sure what more development needs to occur. Has cabin crew announcements, simulates passenger mood and satisfaction, and a flight status/progress overlay.
GSX adds passenger chatter when boarding/de-boarding but no cabin crew announcements, no simulation of in-flight satisfaction or passenger mood. Of course it also visually simulates all kinds of things about loading and unloading the aircraft, handles pushback and parking guidance, too. It’s more about the ground experience than anything else.
There’s a little bit of oddness because GSX’s own simulated passenger loading times don’t really line up with PACX’s or vice versa - it’s been awhile since I have used both at the same time. I mostly switched to GSX but lately getting annoyed with GSX’s bugs and user-interface “quirks” and Couatl scripting engine just randomly quitting … I might make a test flight with both running again later today.
I use GSX which has boarding passenger noise, but for other audio, I have mapped spare buttons on my controller to play an audio file. SPAD lets you do that.
I have boarding music, safety announcement and cabin crew calls mapped.
To add to my comments above … I made a test flight yesterday between KBUR and KLAS using both GSX and PACX. There was no obvious conflict, though of course there is no explicit coordination between the two for stuff like loading/embarking passengers. So in my case, GSX actually finished sooner than PACX “thought” pax loading should take. I used PACX’s interface to request expedited boarding and a couple minutes later, PACX said the cabin was ready for departure.
Everything worked fine through climb, cruise and descent, but for whatever reason, PACX didn’t recognize the landing at KLAS. The progress bar in the display stopped at touchdown (we were a couple minutes early) but never triggered the landing. Even after sitting taxiway for a couple minutes while waiting for GSX to send a follow-me car to the gate, the arrival audio never played and PACX didn’t recognize completion of the flight. I’ll repeat the flight at some point this week and see if the issue recurs.
+1 for PACX, I have that for passenger immersions and never had any problem with that (nor that, what LameLefty mentioned)
just a sidenote, PACX is still developed, they aiming the next update to Q1 '23 which will include new voices, either in foreign languages
I repeated the same flight this afternoon after work and this time PACX recognized my landing just fine. I can’t explain yesterday’s glitch but the flight was 5 minutes early, and the passenger satisfaction was 95%.
It’s a lot of fun. If you install FSUIPC7, it will also calculate your landing rate and use that as part of your overall flight rating and passenger satisfaction score.
