Any difference between i9 9900k and i9 10900k?

I’m currently debating if it’s actually worth upgrading from my current i9 9900k cpu to the i9 10900k. Has anybody made this upgrade or know if there is any improvement in performance?

Current specs:

34 inch Ultra Wide monitor 1440p
Asus Rog Maximus XI Motherboard
i9 9900k
Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti
32 GB RAM
1TB SSD
NZXT 360mm AIO Cooler

Wow my system is almost an identical match, I have a xg32vq monitor and 64 gb ram but that’s it. Let me know what you find out haha!

At best you’d get about 4% better performance.

Depends what DX12 does - if anything. I’d expect better utilization at least.

Hmm, totally not worth for just 4% increase in performance.

Not worth it IMO. Might be a 6% improvement and you’ll need a new motherboard.

11th Gen will be out in March and should offer at least 20% improvement.

eehm, no.
They are claiming an ‘up to 19% increase in IPC’, so 19% will be best case. Will probably average out around 6-8%.
Also, wait for external benchmarks. Always be weary of marketing claims made before product launch.

At least 20% compared to 9th Gen, not to 10th Gen.

But yes we should wait for independent benchmarks.

Doesn’t the i9 9900 use an 1151 socket? The i9 10900k is and LGA 1200. You’ll need a new motherboard if that’s the case

Yea not worth upgrade unless trying to run 4K in which case I would upgrade the GPU.

For what it’s worth, I have an 8700k OC to 5ghz with 32gb ram and SSDs installed. I also have a meager 1080ti- remember when those were high-end and hard to find? My bottleneck is not the CPU, it’s the GPU. Even the difference between the 8700 and 10xxx are nominal. Our problem is the GPU. Without the 30xx series, we’re limited.

That’s where you should focus the upgrade. Unfortunately, it won’t be until Feb-March before supplies of the 30xx series improve. So, it’s going to be a while before we can all start to enjoy those benefits.

However, I’ll upgrade everything when I get the new card- new case, new cooling system, new MOBO, just to have the system ready for the next couple of years.

This one’s served me well for 2.5 years- I run in 4K, and usually don’t have problems.

Yes, but also If you have an unlocked processor like a 9900K, you are better off investing in a decent all in one CPU water cooler. I have my CPU running at 5Ghz and I’m wondering why I didn’t do this years ago.

That’s interesting, what kind of performance gains have you seen?

Very easy to answer.

NO.
from 9900k to 10900k or 10850k NO.

Note: if money is not issue and you can buy whatever you want whenever you want of course you can upgrade

Yes, I’m aware. But I won’t make the upgrade if I won’t get at least 20% better performance

No, OC your 9900K if you want perf

Imagine having 95 cents and your parents telling you that they’ll give you another 5 cents if you mow the grass for a year. Not worth it.

Wait for Alder-Lake, keep the 9900K.
