Any problems you see in my todo list for expanding disk space on this laptop?

Please reply if you see any flaws in this plan to add storage to a Gigabyte Aorus 5 laptop

SSD Storage Drive Now After Upgrade
PCIe NVMe Gen 3.0 Slot 1	Original 500 GB SSD Drive	C: 217 GB D: 244 GB C: 485 GB
PCIe NVMe Gen 3.0 Slot 2	New Crucial 1 TB SSD Drive	empty D: 931 GB
SATA 2.5" empty

New SSd drive is Crucial P3 1TB PCIe 3.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 3500MB/s - CT1000P3SSD8

PCIe NVMe Gen 4.0 requires at least an Intel 11th Generation processor. The Aorus 5 has a 10th Generation processor so the new drive is Gen 3.0.

ToDo

  1. Install new SSD
  2. Quick format all of new SSD as Drive E:
  3. Copy Aerosoft One Library, Sofware, and WpSystem folders of Drive D: to E: Do not copy empty Program Files, WindowsApps
  4. Change the Drive D letter to Z
  5. Change the Drive E letter to D
  6. Test Flight Simulator. If all ok, continue with this Todo list
  7. Add new Packages folder under D:\Software\FS2020 for Community and Official folders:to stop having path name too long errors
  8. Move the Community and Official folders buried deep under WpSystem to D:\Software\FS2020\Packages
  9. Rename WpSystem to WpSystem - Delete
  10. Test Flight Simulator When it shows screen to install all files, click Browse and point to D:\Software\FS2020\Packages.
  11. Update \Software\FS2020 file shortcut paths used for quick access to State.cfg and other text files

If all ok after using Aorus 5 laptop for a month or so

  1. Convert drive Z; to unallocated space and extend drive C: to add all that space.
  2. Permanently delete WpSystem - Delete

Screws on the bottom plate, thanks to YouTube video

  • 6 across the edge with the battery compartment
  • 6 not in a line across the middle including 1 in the battery compartment
  • 4 across the opposite edge

If you read this far, thank you!

I see no issues with that plan.

the thing I would do is to get a 2TB SSD and put it in the Sata Slot, and then do an IMAGE Backup of the 1st NVme drive, before starting anything else, ( I use Acronis True Image 2018 – later version do not work as well and are full of unwanted Bloatware)

The when you have successfully completed the addition of the 2nd 1TB drive, and all is working, Image backup the C & D drives, to that 2TB SATA drive, and the maybe later delete the original backup.

Having that SATA drive holding an Image of your C & D drives is very convenient… for so many reasons.

IF anything happens to those C or D drives, the time to recover makes that SATA drive well worth its cost …

BTW: That is the 2 NVMe, 1 SATA configuration I have on my Acer Nitro 5 Laptop… same size drives as well !!

Thank you for reviewing my plan and for suggesting the image backups before starting.

I use Macrium Reflect Free for image backups and a SATA drive in a removable drive rack on my desktop as the destination. The speed is over 1 GB / sec over my LAN and it takes about 10 minutes to back up each 100 GB, plus 10 minutes more to verify each 100 GB of the image.

So, to back up and verify I am looking at 26 minutes for system drive C and 42 minutes for data-only drive D, so that amount of time works ok for me.
