Any way to hide the pilot/co-pilot seat backs?

Developers can let us hide/unhide the yoke.
Is there a way to hide/unhide the seat backs?

I use Tobii, and in many planes, when I have my position set for the best FOV and distance to the instrument panel, I get positioned behind the pilot’s seat. I know I can combine it with the mouse zoom to at least make it useable, but that’s not an ideal situation.

Best would be to make the seat back simply disappear. I don’t want everything to disappear - just the seat back. This would also be helpful when I turn around to look back into the rear seat.

I’ll make a Wishlist item if you all tell me it can’t be done.

YES, YES, Please mke the seatbacks invisible in the airliners at least. And while you are at it, I don’t think it would detract from the experience that much if you could move the 747 spoiler lever just a bit to the right or make it shorter so we don’t have to move it to get to the CLR. and DEL buttons on the FMC.

Some planes have this option, I think in PMDG737 you can turn off F/O seat.

Sounds like I’ll need to reach out on every developer’s Discord (UGH…) and beg them for this.

I was hoping someone knew about a config file hack. 3rd party aircraft files are typically not encrypted, so modifying .cfg files shouldn’t be prohibited. I’ve never done that, though, and wouldn’t know where to begin for this issue.

Hi @BegottenPoet228
This may not be possible. As I understand it (& I’m no expert on this) it depends if the seat has been modeled as a separate node. You then need a visibility template in the aircraft’s interior XML file, and a VarToggle entry in the camera.cfg file.

You might want to add the sdk tag to this post, or post the question on the dev support forum.

Or save yourself the time and come to terms with the fact that this is never ever going to happen :stuck_out_tongue:

What @SmotheryVase665 describes is totally correct — that it would need integrating manually into the 3D model for every aircraft separately by the original developers.

May I ask, why do you need to sit that far back if you have Tobii?

It’s only in certain planes. For example, flying the XF-11, the ideal position puts me inside the seat. Any closer and I feel cramped.

My Bonanza seating position is perfect. FOV and distance to the instruments is ideal.
Honestly, I’ve never even seen the seat back in that plane. Maybe there isn’t one. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am, obviously, unsure as to whether you have tried this but the Tobii Eye Tracker has a ‘Reset’ function which it is usually necessary to resort to when the App is initially started. If your initial view starts from behind the seats press the ‘Reset’ button once and it will move the view to very close to the instrument panel and the second time it will reposition the view to more of a pilot’s eye view. I can’t remember what the default keyboard bind is for this function (I have it bound to ‘0’); a quick search in the keyboard Controls Options should show you what it is, but F12 sticks in my mind. There are two functions which I have bound for the eye tracker ‘0’ for Reset and ‘Enter’ for toggle.

I do use F12 to set my position. I was using ‘H’ as the hotkey to enable/disable, but that quit working a couple of days ago. Both F12 and ‘H’ were defaults when I installed Tobii Experience.I went on the Tobii Discord to get help with that. They said the Tobii Game Hub is how hotkey binds are done, but that the Game Hub wasn’t needed (or advisable) because of Tobii’s integration into the sim. I don’t see any option to bind them in Tobii Experience.

You say you can bind the keys in the sim’s keyboard control section? I thought the only controls we could access are the sensitivity sliders in the Tobii control section?

I might have the wrong end of the stick here as I’m sure you already know this, but there is a Reset Head Tracking option in the normal Keyboard settings that you can assign to anything. Just search for “head” in the keyboard section and you’ll find it. There is also Toggle Head Tracking (which temporarily disables Tobii or TrackIR etc).

Excellent. Thanks!

Which is what I was getting at:

I’ll definitely check that. I appreciate the help.

ETA: I found the keyboard bindings I needed. Many thanks - again.
