I’ve been having some very high memory usage in the sim, sometimes causing it to stutter terribly or freeze altogether. 25gb of ram just sitting at KLAX. If I switch airports through the menu without closing the sim, then the problem gets worse.
I have a good system- not top of the line, but never had any problems since the update. Am I the only one?
I would´t call 25 Gb “very high memory usage”, much less at KLAX.
Just did a quick chek, and I´m using 24-27 Gb just sitting at KLAX in the default A320.
Frame rate is good at 30-35 fps depending on weather, (yes I call 30 fps good), and little if any stuttering (R3900X, RTX3080, 64 Gb RAM, 4K everything ultra).
In Madrid-Barajas I can get up to 32 Gb RAM used, still at 33 fps and quite smooth.
If you get severe stutter, something must be wrong, but I would´t say the memory usage you are getting is abnormal…
Thanks, I was just thinking about that. My settings are pretty high, but I never noticed memory usage until recently.
I never had the bad stutters until the update, and they only happen when I start more than a couple of flights through the world map instead of closing the sim and starting fresh. Sometimes they go away, but it can take a few minutes. Other times they’re random, like on departure from DFW the other day. Never happened before, hasn’t happened again…
Anyway, I was just trying to make connections where there are none I suppose.
Have you checked your GPU temps? Sometimes stuttering happens when the GPU is getting too hot and will throttle back a little to get temps back down and that results in a stutter.
I’m not sure it’s a stutter in the general sense. Fortunately, I rarely get them- it’s some kind of real slow-motion loading of the sim. Sometimes I have to do a hard close and then restart.
I’d still check you temps just to make sure they aren’t getting too hot. They’ll be get hot quick when loading. Also what is your HD? if it is a optical drive see if it needs some defragging. If it is an SSD then make sure you have enough room on it for it to cache.
Heck, I even take it a step farther than that and do a complete reboot between flights, or even restarts of the sim itself. I haven’t been looking for RAM usage, so I haven’t noticed any, but I have noticed that switching back and forth in between VR and “not VR” (whatever that’s called, assuming it even has a name) can cause absolutely tremendous delays while the software “adapts”, so to speak, to it’s “new” operating environment.
It hasn’t always been that way, though I can’t put my finger on exactly when it started. Certainly when I first started using VR, I could switch back and forth without any noticeable consequence, and did. I’d taxi, takeoff, and reach cruise in VR, then swap to “not VR” for cruise, and then back to VR near my TOD to finish the flight that way.
Assuming all that makes sense to anybody but me to begin with lol…
I’m glad you guys are working out the kinks with VR before I take the plunge and get a headset:-)
For me, doing a reinstall seemed to have solved the problem. Just reinstall to the same folder without deleting any files and the process goes pretty quick.
