Those were my thoughts when I suggested blocking it, in case the software is not cleanly failing over to another host. However, without knowing exactly what “EAST USA” really is, those connections could quite easily be behind a load balancer, so firewalling one of them off wouldn’t really make any difference.
It’s that way on all servers, not just the EAST USA
Then they are simply blocking ICMP in that case, so nothing to worry about on that front.
I might have a play around with Wireshark later on, as I’m curious how they are measuring latency, and to where.
