Anyone other Xbox users just fed up that 2024 is completely unplayable?

Stayed out of SU2 beta - the last one was a lot of work. I’ve tended back to MSFS2020 as I prefer it overall.
Yes, when it works MSFS2024 can be really good - but it has to be said that the sum of those moments is disappointingly low and accompanied by quite a high frustration factor. The key question for me is not “when it will be fixed” but whether it ever will be fixed satisfactorily?
The jury’s out on that one for now - but here we are 4 months down the line from launch…

msfs 2024 is a memory hog, it can easily chew 16 gigs of vram and 32 gigs of main ram. Xbox is too weak machine for msfs 2024, its 5 year old system. I think that making the sim playable on xbox is close to impossible task.
My 2 cents

We, the Xbox users, are the reason they made 2020 and 2024 as that’s where the money is. PC gets inibuilds A350 on launch day for £72. Xbox users still waiting and will have to pay £100 for the full package because liveries aren’t free on Xbox. We get absolutely fleeced in order to pay for them to make it better on PC (where they get most stuff for free) and we’re just expected to put up with it not working as advertised

Absolutely this is the case, it’s such a shame we just get left, forgotten about. You can even tell the way they knew very well the game was gonna be a terrible experience on Xbox due to the terrible anti aliasing, its a horrid trade off for actually running the sim, all of the graphics that 2020 got right are then soaked up and dried out, yet the team still said nothing about this compatibility and left it to their customers to hope they don’t notice

As I mentioned earlier I’m quite happy with the performance and stability I’m getting in MSFS2024 on an Xbox X.

I thought it might be interesting to provide the network speed and statistics I’m currently getting.

This as accessible through Xbox Settings/General/Network/Test network speed & statistics

Download Speed 182.21 Mbps
Upload Speed 141.78 Mbps
Latency 41ms
Wireless strength 100%

I have not been playing this game for very long, I’ve only started playing in december, not having previously played MSFS20, or any other flightsim in a long time.

So far I have been learning how to fly, and how to operate the different planes and systems. I have not yet ventured into flying the bigger airplanes, which I expect has it’s own share of issues on xbox.

I do feel a bit discouraged with MSFS24 right now. But that has more to do with the poor state of SU2 for xbox. I was hoping to see some significant improvements over the current nonbeta version. SU2 seems to have introduced a ton of new bugs that weren’t there before.

Overall I do really enjoy playing the game, and SU1 made it a lot more enjoyable for me, as it almost completely got rid of the CTD’s and unexpected errors I got before.

But obviously there are many issues and bugs that need to be fixed to make this a better game. But as long as I can mostly work my way around them, and they aren’t gamebreaking issues, I’m fine playing.

So while feeling a bit discouraged right now, I also feel optimistic a lot of bugs that are gameplay related will be fixed eventually. And I don’t really feel that the xbox hardware is simply not capable enough.

If anyone ever need a case study on

How not to launch a product

they should look Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (Xbox Version at least). The Sim crashes frequently. Many of the game features don’t work at all or fail intermitently. There are so many complaints and Micorosoft guys don’t actually care or respond. I have given up on this Sim and consider my 150 USD to be completely wasted.

I have to agree with you that SU1 reduced the CTDs dramatically. They were mainly in menus but are almost non existant now. Loading time was improved for me as well.

SU2 is a big disappointment currently and yes, it’s discouraging. I share your hope that they’ll eventually get it working but for now SU1 has never looked better.

sim crashes often even on PCs. The total memory system should be updated. I have 12 gb of vram, and that not enough even 1080p and lowest texture resolution, so go figure.

If I could afford a decent PC I would do it. 2020 is excellent on XB. 2024 is poor but still in its infancy. If 2024 gets as good as 2020 then I would be happy.

Just so we’re on the same page, how did 2020 run for you?
I have a Series S and I couldn’t wait to play 2024 exactly because 2020 was bad on my system wrt performance. CTDs on approach and everything.
I can honestly say that 2024 did bring a lot of improvement in that area, but only from SU1 Beta forward. For some reason SU2 has backtracked, but we were warned that performance would take a hit because of the data collection. Just not as massive a hit as this…

In airliners, if I want to fly from a default, single runway airport, everything is fine. As soon as you want to fly from a bigger airport, forget it. CTDs and black screens galore. I’ve also found that once you get black screens, they never come back on again and none of the avionics work. I’ve tried with live air traffic on and with it off, it makes no difference. Until I’m not restricted to what airport I can fly at, I’m sticking with 2020.
Yes, if I want to fly a Cessna VFR, it performs fine, which I do enjoy doing sometimes, but I want to be able to have the choice of flying anything I choose, without problems.

I deleted it and have gone back to 2020 and despite the still reduced LOD it runs like it’s a better game on a new generation of hardware compared to 2024. I could still struggle to even load in a flight on 2024 and when I did, it looked like it was running on a Sega Saturn! (As good as that was at the time of course!)

Totally agree with this. After SU1 beta testing. - our feedback obviously going into a black hole and ignored completely) MSFS2020 felt like a step up - the sequel rather then the prequel to MSFS2024, even, as you say, with the last unnecessary and annoying reduction in LOD.
I’ve given up on MSFS 2024 - which is an epic failure and risks turning the Xbox platform into a laughing stock. Unacceptably poor especially as it’s coming from MS as well…

Hello Microsoft team, it is impossible to finish a flight, for example on Xbox Series X from Ohare, Chicago to Washington, DC on the RL 737-8 Max. It cuts out and eventually exits the SIM. It needs SIM update 2 to fix it.

MSFS2024 can run very well on Xbox. I have an Xbox X and 24 is way better than MSFS2020 even though I was very satisfied with the performance of 20 as well.

As all our boxes should be the same it should be possible to identify why there is such a variation of performance across the Xbox user base. According to the forums it seemed that we still had that variance with MSFS2020 though.

The streaming of most data is the big difference with MSFS2024 so those who are having a worse experience than they had on 2020 it’s probable that data supply is an issue. That’s why I provided my network data earlier.

Maybe geographical location also affects the data flow so, despite having a good connection to the internet, general data flow is bottlenecked in some regions. I’m in North America.

The final thing I can think of is our Xbox. I only have a couple of games on mine. When I’m running MSFS everything else is closed. No games in background on Quick Start. After installing an update to MSFS 20 or 24 I restart the Xbox. I also usually restart the sim every time I change a/c as well. 24 loads so quickly anyway.

Bottom line though MSFS/Asobo are providing a simulator that does run well for some users on Xbox. Probably for the majority of users. Forums always give a negative slant as we are more likely to come to a forum when we’re looking for help due to issues so the experience is sub par. Those without issues are just getting on and enjoying the flying.

Its hard to believe that anyone who works on the sim actually ran the sim on Xbox. Its bugged so much, I don’t understand how they would have tried it and said “yeah its fine” when everyday people load up the sim and find errors everywhere.

Kinda frustrating that the public is essentially doing the bug finding for them.

Yup, that’s the frustrating thing.
I could understand the developers doing a much more limited test than we do in the beta - maybe two stock aircraft - one simple, one complex - in a single region. One partial free flight, one partial mission…. It wouldn’t take much more than one hour to verify the emulator version works as it should on Xbox. But - this obviously isn’t being done at all - if it is, someone could tell us as it would make the beta testing easier to do.
I have the feeling that no one is looking at Xbox separate to PC. That’s a mistake as on Xbox we have no option but to trust the devs to give us a version that does not need many (or any) graphics tweaks - as we have no access to the system settings). Instead people are still asking us for FPS data. It’s a big gulf, and a big and quick win for the devs would be to bridge it!

We don’t have any reason to say that either way, as most users who run into issues likely just stop using the sim and don’t come to the forums either.

It’s not just about “running well”, whatever that means. Does that mean good LOD with complex aircraft or just a C152?
Does it mean you can enter text into the EFB? Does ATC work well for you and not for others?
Do you see ships when you fly over ocean?
Are there any bugs in the stock aircraft that cause issues? ( spoiler - just how many completed stock aircraft are there in MSFS2024?)
Are all your MSFS 2020 purchases fully compatible?

Or does “running well” just mean “smoothly” every single time you log in, and you don’t mind about all the bugs and the poor LOD when flying a complex airliner?

For me, MSFS2024 is an unfinished, buggy, sprawling mess of a game. Sometimes but not very often there are flashes of what might have been - but the sheer amount frustration that you have to endure to get to that point is almost unbearable.

On Xbox we rely absolutely ( trust) the developers to optimise their work for Xbox because we don’t have the luxury of being able to tweak things as you can with a PC. MS/Asobo have let us all down very badly in that regard - our trust in them has been misplaced. I feel I’ve been sold a sub-standard product that just isn’t worth the money I’ve paid for it - and the promises and assurances thst were made to us about backwards compatibility have been shown to be wholly inaccurate.
