RenderScale 2D 200% VR 100%. My in-game VR settings are mostly high to Ultra, TAA. Can’t think much else would be a ‘secret sauce’. I’m running an i7 7700k at <4.9GHz, 1080ti 11Gb, 32 Gb 3200 RAM plus a Gb internet connection. I should add, the only change in clarity comes from the 100/ 200 in the 2D setting. I’ve more or less always kept the other settings.
Thanks a lot for your time with this, this is helping!
This time it shows the primary scaling factor of 200% and it seems this is the only change. This eliminates the possibility it would have changed something else too.
however now that I’ve commented about TLOD and OLOD, I’m wondering if you’d find the same “enhancements” with the the 200% Render Scaling trick if you’d use 100% Terrain LOD and 100% Object LOD?
This is making me wondering whether these settings (TLOD,OLOD) in conjunction with render scaling, is the key to the enhancement and why some aren’t seeing it, or, whether these settings are actually doing something more in the rendering which is either not expected (a bug with positive outcome), or intended (but not documented).
The only difference I catch is your 30fps ASW ON. I simply can’t handle that as ASW 1.0 create too many artifact, so I’m locked to 45fps ASW OFF with a mix of VR settings from mid to ultra …
Saying that, I already tried few days ago the 30fps ASW ON for this trick and didn’t catch any difference whatever PC Render Scale I use…
Other things are component, i7 10700K OC 5Ghz all cores, RTX3070 8GB OC +125/+1000, 32 GB RAM 3200Mhz and 300MB internet fiber.
How about your PC settings regarding resolution and windowed or fullscreen mode?
My TV is 1920x1080 and I tried my usual settings when flying VR as windowed 1280x720, and also tried fullscreen same resolution, and finally fullscreen 1920x1080, all that with vsync OFF and ON, and again without success (yep, I tried tons of things to be part of the happy club)…
Mmmm, I have both LOD at 100%… Ok, new things to try!
Edit : Oh and BTW, as I already spoke about it, the Primary Scaling take the value of the VR Render Scaling (70 in my case) if I quit MSFS inside VR so from the headset clicking “Quit” in the main menu. Pretty sure both “problems” are linked…
There’s nothing to be sorry about because my G2 is already very clear with my settings. I am not running CptLucky8’s settings because they are too low for what my 3080 is capable of.
I run OXR 80% and FS RR 100% and I can read the smallest of text on MFDs and distant scenery is quite sharp. The rest of FS settings I have at high/max - 1, with the exception of trees and clouds which I have at ultra, so a lot higher than what CptLucky8 has suggested.
In short, the 200% 2D RR trick doesn’t seem to improve on my already-excellent FS VR visuals, and I’m totally OK with that. It’s just interesting that others haven’t been seeing the clarity I get until they use this trick.
Just to be clear, when you say OXR is at 100%, do you mean that you don’t have custom render resolution checked in OXR developer tools or that you do and it is set to 100%?
If the former, then I believe that OXR sets the render resolution based on your video card, which is not 100% for my 3080 and actually works out to be 80% for mine. You can verify by looking at the final render resolution in FS2020 developer mode.
That is correct.
I checked before that 100% and an unchecked box yield the same target resolution.
It ends-up being 2208 x 2208 since the size is a bit larger than the headset resolution (per eye) to compensate for the deformation they have to perform.
Well, I was talking more about his Nvidia Control Panel options, but whatever. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a 3080, so we have to get by with our “lesser” cards, in my case a 2070 Super. Since you’re so happy with your performance, and if I had a 3080, I’d be quite upset if I wasn’t getting top tier performance like you are, so I wonder why you even stopped by this thread. But, you did, and I’m glad you’re happy with your performance!
One thing I do want to make clear though, I didn’t (and don’t) appreciate the implication that I was just changing the resolution just to get a result that I wanted to get. I assure you that was not the case. While I was trying to share the results I was seeing in my G2s with others by using photos to do so, I would never falsify anything to accomplish it. I know what I see, and the 200 “trick” has made mine much clearer, akin to having needed glasses before that were subsequently supplied. I wasn’t sure if the pictures would show that, fortunately they did. But even if not, I still would have posted about it, had that happened my best guess would be that it was related to compression of the photos by either my computer, the forum, or both. But that’s not what happened.
Thank you @CodeLoran69. I’m just glad it actually worked! And I hope SU5 doesn’t break it… Not that I care if it breaks the Render Scale 200 “trick”, as long as what I see in the back of my eyeballs remains at least as good, if not better. Already it looks like increased framerates are a lock, but I care less about framerates, and more about what my eyes tell me, and right now my eyes are pretty dadgum happy. But what the increased framerates may do is allow me to go places like LAX, JFK, and the worst offender of all, Charles de Gaulle in Paris that currently cause performance issues for me. Most of them I can life with, but CDG is SO bad that I dont’ go there at all, which is a shame, because it is a beautiful airport.
Wow I don’t see any difference, I double checked on my computer screen and still, they look the same.
The compass and other blurry details look better only because the head is closer to the dashboard in the second screenshot. No?
If you still have them, could you upload them somewhere else? The forums really destroy the quality. Thanks!
You are taking things I have said are are implying them in a negative way that I did not intend. I used the term resolution to imply a clearer image, not a literal pixel increase with which you took offence ie. I was actually agreeing with you! Also, my mention of having a 3080 was a factual answer to your question as to why I am not using CptLucky8’s settings, not a face rub for those with (as you called it) “lesser” cards.
In any case, I am pleased the 200% trick works for you and others, just be aware that it does not work for all and it should be OK for those of us that it doesn’t work for to post our experience too, even if that doesn’t align with yours.
