Are Rain Effects in the Air Gone Only for Me? 🤔

Before I start filling bug reports and such, is this happening to anyone else?

I don’t see any more rain effects in the air (IE: the droplets falling). I do have splashes and wet on the ground and droplets on windshields and glass surface, as seen below.

To show the difference, here’s one of my videos from last month. The effect is definitely visible.

Does anyone see those effects in the air, or they have been (perhaps accidentally) removed with SU5 or one of its hotfixes?

Doubt this will help, but I was flying in the UK a couple of days ago and it was streaming down, all over the windshield and the sound of the rain on the plane was really loud. Outside view, I could see the rain as well. On take off run, the droplets were all rising up the windshield as before. Very much like your first picture. So whilst I have no idea whats happening at your end, I can positively say I am still seeing this.

I see them on the windshield. I don’t see them in the air from external view.

Incidentally, yes, I did try with an empty community folder

sorry modified my post.. yes I see them in the air as well

Rain has been toned down significantly. I flew through a torrential downpour which was accurate for the weather where I was flying and based on what I was hearing on my fuselage and seeing on my windshield. But switching to external view showed very little rain. There was some, but nothing like what we would previously see.

It definitely happened with SU5. Whether it was intentional or accidental removal is anyone’s guess.

Have you modded your user.cfg?

If so, do not set EyeAdaptation to 0.

No, I haven’t edited that at all :frowning:

WHY not ??

.. are you implying that this will cause an issue with seeing Rain ??

Couple of days ago, I started a flight from Kauai. It was in thunderstorms but the ATIS wind was only about 9kts. It was a cold and dark startup from parking in the CJ4, so no air pusher (i. e. Propeller) in front of me.

The rain was defying gravity by rolling UP the windscreen. Kinda breaks the “simulation” immersion. It really looked wrong.

I think there are bigger fish to fry, but rain effects could definitely use some love. That’s my $0.02

I’ll take that, but for now I’d just like to understand how to get the rain back haha.

The rain has been changed to be based on illumination (see the landing light cone):

Same for internal view, you can see the lines only when they’re in the light cone:

That’s far more realistic than drawing the white lines all over the place since that’s how you see it in real life as well.

Mmmh I agree about the realism with reserve. When it rains hard in the real world you can definitely see the droplets without the need for them to be directly illuminated.

Making them completely invisible is IMHO excessive.

Yeah, but they usually don’t look like in your second video either. So as long as they don’t improve the look of it (make it more volumetric), I rather prefer the new way - but it’s also a matter of taste.
And once you move it basically doesn’t matter, at a certain speed you can’t make out individual drops anyway.

I think it has something to do with the lighting. If you notice that when you cycle the different times during rain. If you make it in the middle of the day, you can see the water droplets. When you move the time to pitch black at night. You can’t see the water droplets.

Yeah, I’d just rather have a realistic in-between. That being said, gotta thank you. You solved my problem. I turned the lights on, and now at least I know I’m not crazy or my sim isn’t corrupted and the effect is still there

I do not know why this got posted, without any explanation or reason .. and no reason given.

It is totally irrelevant and nothing to do with Rain Effect.

Setting EyeAdaptation to 0 is a proven and safe way to reduce the Pupil eye dilation effect, that cause the cockpit to become over-dark, when there is bright outside sunlight.

flew into hurricane.

Beers :beers:

My self and others have noted losing rain effects with this setting at 0. I had the issue a while back and as soon as I put it back on 1 the tarmac was wet again and I could see the rain. Perhaps depending on drivers and hardware it can cause this issue for some? Not sure, just what I had experienced.

Fair enough – I had not seen that … but it sounds like it is a commonly shared side effect. I will try it myself, with special emphasis on the water on the tarmac, and see if I can reproduce the same effect. Will report my findings…
