Preferably one that may also for for Xbox.
do these exist ??
Honestly, I’m wondering the same thing. Why wouldn’t they in an era of wireless keyboard/mouse/controllers right?
Not aware of any commercial offerings, but you could build one easily enough by using a BlueHID control board (or use an existing open source design and just add that control board if you aren’t so technically inclined).
I used the BlueHID in a wireless wheel button box for my racing rig, works very well and very easy to use, no drivers needed or anything just works as a plug and play Bluetooth controller.
Don’t believe it would work for Xbox though, I think they only connect to certified devices?
I don’t think they exist (yet) because joystick draws a lot of power, something that’s difficult to do if you have a wireless. There’s also the input lag as well as the need for constant input given by the hardware.
We can get away with wireless keyboard and mouse because they only give input when you move the mouse and type something. Otherwise the hardware will not be transmitting any signal which can idle the hardware to save battery.
But joysticks doesn’t work that way, whether you leave it alone or not, the joystick needs to keep feeding the signal to the PC with their position or any switches that are on or off. You don’t want the joystick to go to low power mode where your throttle suddenly pulls back to IDLE and you had to press something on your joystick to have get it out of the low power zone to bring the throttle back to the correct position again.
With wireless and the need for a constant signal being sent to the PC, the battery won’t last a day and you have to keep it recharged all the time. Which is impractical.
So until they can manufacture a joystick with minimal input lag, constant signal while allowing the battery life to last to at least a week. I don’t think there will be any.
Well if we can send remote control helicopters to Mars, I’m sure someone could develop a wireless flight controller. I think the wireless connection shouldn’t be an issue. We’ve had at least 3 generations of consoles using more advanced controllers on some very intensive FPS heavy games. The only concern I see is battery life, might not last on a long haul flight.
There are USB to wireless network devices that might work with a normal USB stick. No idea. I think they are mainly designed to turn an external USB storage device into a ghetto modded NAS.
Getting something like that to work on Xbox is a separate issue. Xbox I believe only works with MS certified controllers that it already knows about.
I made a post about this a while back, due to my disability being bed bound and PC other end of room I can’t use a yoke or joystick as even the extenders can’t be made to work neatly. As it stands there doesn’t seem to be anything wireless out there
I used an active USB cable because I use my joystick and quadrant from my living room couch since I used the PC on my living room TV. I use the active USB extension coupled with an active USB hub that I placed underneath the sofa. So I can just connect the Joystick and Throttle quadrant to my USB hub beneath me, and have the active cable run to my PC. Works just fine.
@Neo4316 For some that will work, but that essentially turns it wired. For me I’d have to block off a door, have pets risk chewing. Either way I was just explaining the reason of my topic on the same thing as in theory this is a re-post of a covered topic, which technically goes against forum rules, letting the OP know that currently extenders is only option if the reason is length of cable.
you can use a wireless xbox contoller and kb and mouse, with a big screen thats possible
from a bed.
That’s what I already do. I mean how else can I play other than keyboard and mouse when already said can’t use a joystick… It’s just not as fun.
kinda strange , because windows itself has all kind of help for disabilites.
maybe write to ms explaining the issue and asking if they know a solution?
The issue isn’t with the game or windows… it’s with the fact that until there’s a wireless hotas I can’t use one. I don’t need help, I didn’t come here asking for it. I just was explaining what was said on my previous topic on the same matter of wireless yokes/joysticks. Which is that there aren’t any.
Why not get something like this? You can have the PC closeby, your monitor close, and everything will be within range. And the best part, it would accomodate your bed-bound situation.
That wouldn’t accommodate a bed bound person, at least not in my situation. For one it would be near impossible to use a hoist to get into it that thing. You would require the ability to support self to an extent as the support on it especially around the head doesn’t look great nor does it have the freedom of movement that a hospital bed has. Plus those things cost wayyyy more than I could ever afford given my benifits which rely on only just covers cost of living when disabled.
I have the best set up possible as had help from disabled people and physios. I only asked for help finding if there was a wireless control on my original post which there’s not. I never asked for help here, I even said multiple times now I don’t need it. I only posted to explain that there was already a topic covering this up. I understand most likely trying to help but you know nothing about my health or needs so its highly inappropriate to act like you do. Disabled people don’t need saviours or help we don’t ask for as a rule of thumb.
As said you could get someone to build one using BlueHID and the battery lasts absolutely ages, it can accept potentiometers (Hall effect or otherwise). Latency is minimal in my experience, and certainly nothing I would worry about for a flight sim… I use it with magnetic shifters on my wheel and can’t perceive a delay.
Another alternative would be making/having someone make an Xbox HOTAS conversion for you… there are free 3D printing plans on thingiverse etc. One such example:
Depending on where you are in the world I’m certain you can find someone to make one of those for you at minimal expense.
That means you can only get your PC and monitor, and basically all your setup closer to you. Perhaps, you can put your PC underneath your bed. Or next to it, then route the cables to one side of the bed without going over the entire room. You would still need your monitor close by, right? Otherwise, if your monitor or TV is the one at a distance, then at least you only need an active HDMI/DP cable that needs to be routed from your PC to the display, everything else is close to your bed.
There’s definitely a way to find a solution that will improve your comfort, especially if you will be bed bound permanently.
I’m just muting this now as 3 people now have just ignored me saying I don’t need help. All its doing is making me feel belittled and as if y’all think because disabled I need help because it’s impossible for disabled people to be independent
I have a set up that works and I know where stand and what works given my health and all its doing it taking this off topic when I only commented to tell OP that there was a threat already about this and that there’s no proper wireless system currently.
The point I was making is that while there is no simple commercial offering there are at least two DIY options available.
It’s got nothing to do with whether someone is disabled or not, nor was it offering assistance beyond saying what’s possible. If you are indeed referring to me then I suggest you re read what I wrote. It is simply stating that here are some options if you want wireless HOTAS which is the entire theme of this thread
