I just checked my Xbox’s network performance on WiFi. I have to use WiFi as the wired connection is via a Homeplug (Ethernet over mains powerlines) which has awful performance. The network stats for WiFi are:
Download speed: 73 Mbps
Upload speed: 36 Mbps
Packet loss: 0%
Latency: 26 ms
Wireless strength: 64%
MTU: 1480
I think those stats should be okay but would appreciate some input from people using a WiFi connection for MSFS 2020 on Xbox. I have an Xbox Series S.
(On Series X)
That’s more down and up than what I average and I’m not experiencing any issues. The WiFi strength will likely be an issue in rainy conditions, try move the console in a less obscured position from the router.
My PC doesn’t have a WiFi receiver, so I’m using a wireless bridge, which wifi transfer rate is at 50Mbps. From the bridge goes a cable to the PC. From the Router to the bridge is a straight line, no doors or walls between.
I didn’t measure the stats while flying/ simming, but I never noticed any lag or something. Even if I’m watching YT, Netflix etc. on the tablet over the same bridge.
So I think you shouldn’t have any problems with your stats.
On my parents house I also had the Ethernet over the powerlines. It worked, but sometimes it behaved…strange
so I feel you

Are you talking about one of those WiFi extenders because that’s what I’m using? I use my phones hotspot to the extender and using the Ethernet into the console. I found better performance doing it that way as the Series consoles WiFi antenna is less than stellar and has drop out issues as I and others have attested to.
I’m just using regular WiFi from my Xbox Series X straight to my broadband router. The other, lower performing, option is to use Homeplugs (Ethernet over mains power) which is a wired connection but does not work as with my Xbox. I tested the stats for the Homeplug wired connection and it wasn’t as good. For example, the latency was double that which I get with a WiFi connection.
@HBXenomorph I’m just asking for now. I got my Xbox late yesterday and have been installing it into my living room and have connected it to my TV. Overnight I let it do the Xbox updates and download MSFS2020. Early this morning I just started the game and then shut everything down.
I ran the network performance test to get the stats this morning and posted them here to see if they are going to be an issue as I want to use multiplayer mode in MSFS.
Ah, I see. Better safe than sorry
Since your stats are theoretical better then mine you shouldn’t experience any issues.
I’m going to check my connection as soon I’m at home.
Because I’m an end user, not an expert, I just did plug-in, start up, works, so good enough, but now I want to know the real numbers, not the writings on the paper
Hi there,
although having a so called 100MBit connection the loading times were awful, and very often the Sim told me that the bandwidth were too low and changed into offline mode. This happened with a wireless connection, speedtests from the Xbox and the provider showed 70-80 Mbit which should be sufficient, but external speedtests were 30Mbit or more fewer, strangely. So I changed it to a wired Cat7 connection which is much better, but sometimes especially while loading new territories I am getting still the bandwidth warning.
So where is the bottleneck? Maybe a combination of insufficient game server capacities and of my providers not reliable internet speed. I presume the 100 Mbit connection is for the whole appartment
If your wireless internet speed is reliable, it should work.
Good luck!
