Leg 10 - Keflavik (BIKF) - Akureyri (BIAR)
A day of leisurely flying all around Iceland taking in the sights.
Early morning departure from keflavik heading east over Vatnajokull Glacier then turning south and following the coastline to Grindavik passing active volcanos on the way. From there turning north to Ísafjörður then finally east again to land at Akureyri.
Preparing departure in the morning to another interesting destination. Can’t wait to chronicle the next leg.

Leg 11 - Akureyri (BIAR) - Jan Mayen (ENJA)
Departure this morning saw me leave the moment that the sun decided to rise, necessary because unlike most on trips like this I didn’t continue east but rather decided to fly north, to one of the most remote, unknown and unused airports in the world Jan Mayen. 400 miles north of Iceland in the Arctic ocean.
I hope that the Norwegian Military didn’t mind me landing on their island, there is nobody there at this time of year as there are 0 inhabitants of the island. Population swells to 35 during the summer months.
Had to tanker in fuel for my onward journey as there is no fuel. What is my next destination on this strange detour? Tune in next update to find out

It is lonely flying in this corner of the world.
Safely down on this desolate strip.

Watch out for that Kármán wind !
My bet for the next stop is on Svalbard to spot polar bears ?
Spot on! That is indeed my next destination. Polar bears, the World Seed Bank and another capital all need to be visited! Another long, boring water crossing but definitely worth it to visit another distant corner of the world.
Leg 12 - Jan Mayen (ENJA) - Svalbard (ENSB)
The trek into the wilds of the far north continued with a long, dark over water leg to Svalbard.
Hoping to see some Polar Bears and Going to check out the world seed bank while I am here.

Beerenberg Volcano looking fantastic in this light
Nestled down in Svalbard. Now time for some Ptarmigan and a Gruve 3 Stiger beer or two.

Leg 13 - Svalbard (ENSB) - Sørkjosenn, Norway (ENSR)
Took off in the pitch black dead of afternoon in Svalbard. Heading south on the last long over water leg for a while, It was a real treat to fly into an endless sunrise.
Could have done the easy and intuitive thing and flown into Tromsø, but after a long boring stretch why not have some fun and fly a very tight pattern into a short runway in a Fjord?
Thus I ended up in Sørkjosenn. What an awesome little airfield.
Looking forward to returning to the Kodiak for a good while. I love the PC12 but the high and fast just isn’t my jam.

Hello Norway
What a fun airport to fly into!

No leg in this post. Just had to take a few trips around the pattern to enjoy the hell out of this airport scenery before I leave it. I will definitely be returning to it numerous times in the future.
This is easily my favorite small airport scenery I have ever flown into. The approaches are challenging, and the setting and details are wonderful.
You can get it here if you are interested. ENSR - Sørkjosen for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS
The yellow towers are markers for the visual approach to runway 32. There is an a offset ILS and RNAV approach for runway 14, but the mountains preclude anything but a visual approach to 32.
The overall feel of this tiny airport is just amazing.
Parked now, prepping for the next leg down the coast of Norway.

That’s definitely a lot nicer than the default airport.
I don’t know at what time you’re flying, but right now (about 1900Z) the full moon and the snow are beautiful there !
It was pretty early morning sim time (~1030z I think) I have been keeping real time weather, but adjusting sim time for early morning departures while this far north on this trip to make use if the very limited daylight, as I continue further south and daylight is more cooperative I will shift back to using real time as well.

Leg 14 - Sorkjosen (ENSR) - Nasmos (ENNM)
Back into the Kodiak, Heading south along the Norwegian coast, leaving the Arctic Circle behind.
The views of the endless mountains and fjords of this region defy description especially cruising along at 4,000 feet, occasionally slightly higher to avoid a random peak here and there.
Passed over the Arctic Cathedral in Tromso, and a number of lighthouses along the way. Maybe by the end of the trip I will learn that Lighthouses make excellent waypoints, but terrible screenshots!
Thought I was done with the PC12 for a while, but thinking through where I would like the next couple of legs to go, I realized I made a mistake in previous planning. A detour to the Faroe Islands is required, so I will head there next and return to Norway at a later date.

Not much to say about this leg other than I am glad I chose to do it in the PC12. The weather was uniformly terrible with cloud even at FL240 and a 70+ kt headwind most of the way but I made it safely.
Definitely not how I wanted to see the Faroe Islands, but tomorrow is another day and maybe some better weather to see some sights!

Leg 16 - Vagur (EKVG) to Edinburgh (EGPH)
A fun leg today with a lot of variation in weather, topography and traffic as well as a lot of interesting sights to see. After so many over legs almost totally over water it was a very welcome change. Could have done without the 40-50 kt headwind the entire way though.
Highlights for me today were seeing the Shetland islands and how low in elevation they are, the Orkney islands, the mountains of the Scottish Highlands, a few castles before finally ending up in Edinburgh.
This is the beginning of a shift in this journey, getting away from long legs to a number of short legs. It will be fun to work on my landing game!
But for now, time for me to enjoy some cullen skink, a bit of whiskey and a fried Mars Bar!

It was nice to have a shorter leg with lots to see today. Only a couple of hours and never exceeding 2500 feet above the ground with manageable winds.
Started off in Edinburgh, headed south to York before turning west to Blackpool and then on to the Isle of Man, the land of my favorite flag!
Seriously who puts a bunch of legs on a flag?
Lots of castles and cathedrals along the way, it was nice to see land that was devoid of snow.
Jet Center let me roost for night in their hangar. I am starting to get spoiled.
Off to get some Manx Queenies, a bit of Fatherless Pie and wash it down with Okell’s Manx Pale Ale.

I managed to turn what should be a super short hop into a literal 3 hour tour! Gilligan would be proud.
There was no way I could pass up the opportunity to tour around the countryside of Ireland! The weather was cloudless with light winds it couldn’t have been better,
From Belfast to Donegal, from Hillsborough Castle to Blarney Castle and many areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (their words not mine) in between it was awesome checking out the four corners of Ireland.
Off to get an Ulster Fry and some Guinness to wind down before preparing myself to head to Wales. Why nobody else other than the irish have caught on to the idea that my favorite food in the world (a full english breakfast) can be served all day long, I will never know.

Another day of beautiful weather, long may it last.
Today saw me swing back across the Irish Sea, with the first waypoint being the Royal Liver Building, who wouldn’t want to visit there?
After that transited across Liverpool to Manchester before turning south to the Jodrell Bank Observatory, specifically the Lovell Telescope. From there it was off to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Birmingham before overflying Warwick Castle on my way to landing in Cardiff.
Tomorrow off to London, and completion of my tour of the United Kingdom!

Loaded just a small amount of fuel this morning for what was a glorified sightseeing flight.
A short hop from Wales to England to finish up my UK portion of the trip, weather was generally favorable with some areas of low cloud but nothing that impacted the plan for today.
Passed by Stonehenge, castles and cathedrals before turning for London after flying past the famous white cliffs of Dover.

Leg 21 - London (EGLC) - Jersey (EGJJ) via Guernsey (EGJB)
While doing my preflight walk around a CAA rep came up and asked me if I knew anything about somebody hot dogging out of London City Airport in a pipstrel, I replied, what the hell is a pipstrel? My logbook clearly shows me flying Pilatus and Kodiak aircraft. Time to get out of dodge.
A pretty straight forward flight today taking me across the English Channel from London to the Channel Islands, I overflew Wimbledon and Henry VIII’s court at Hampton but the low clouds didn’t cooperate for getting any good photographs so I pressed on to Guernsey for a touch and go before finally landing for the night in Jersey. I thought it was going to be like the Jersey Shore, but the distinct lack of quidos told me I wasn’t in Kansas any more.
Time to rest up before pushing into continental europe tomorrow.
