Asobo we need to have options to remove more content

I have found that removing content outside of my own preferred area of flight to greatly improve performance.

This has lead me to discover a great many areas, aircraft and airports are not optional to the install.

These in my USA-cetric install include needing options to remove Frankfurt, Heathrow, Amsterdam, Cape Town and Dubai airports all Reno aircraft, all Discovery, Tutorials, Landing Challenge and Live Events.

The lighter this sim runs the better, please give us more low carb options.

I’m not at my computer right now, but as far as I’m aware, everything you mentioned can already be removed.

In Content Manager, for the stuff that’s bundled together, you can click the widget that looks like a bulleted list:

And then you should have the ability to delete things that are in the bundle.

I went even as far as to attempt to delete, the sim re-installs these.

You deleted them in Content Manager or you deleted them in Windows?

Will check the bundle thing.

Brilliant, down to 137 things installed  took out every extra livery (World Travel/Kenmore/ect)

Edit: having some things in bundles and others not is a bit counterintuitive.

Edit2: Start time with mods installed 1:12

Alright, awesome! Yeah, I’m like you and I removed a ton from mine, as well.

At this point, it shouldn’t come back, and if it does, it’s a bug.

I’m going to move this to Community Support, as I think a lot of people are in the same boat and could probably benefit from this.

Enjoy the extra hard drive space! :+1:

It looks as if “MSFS Addons Linker” has the Advanced ability to have OFFICIAL content supported ..
ie Official content is moved to a defined Addon-Linker "Official"Folder, and then those items can be “Turned on / off” to be loaded into MSFS, just as other items can be, that are in the equivalent (typical) Community holding folder for Addon-Linker.

Trying it out now (its advanced / experimental), but so far the only issue I see, is that once moved, MSFS “Content manager” does not see them as being installed, so any UPDATE of them gets into a mess ?

Unless there is a better way, the only way I see around this is to Occasionally “temporarily” move them back, when there is an SU or WU.

The big ADVANTAGE, is if you don’t need them, they are no longer detected or loaded/checked by MSFS, making boot time shorter, and maybe less loaded in sim, but when you do need them, (ie WU Japan, if you choose to fly today in Japan), then you have them already downloaded, and all you have to do is enable them in Addon-Linker for that Japan flight (15 seconds vs 30 minute download )

Not much info on this feature, so any community input would be most welcome ..

It baffled me tremendously that I had to install aircraft like the Asobo A320, the King Air, the Super Hornet and the Extra and Pitts so that I was able to install the recent World Updates. I think this started with Spain and was the same with Italy. I had freed my drive of several GBs deleting these standard aircraft I NEVER touch. But they were listed as prerequisites and the Buy/install button was greyed out until I had installed them. WTH?

It’s also that while the FS-BASE CGL can be removed, it’s recommended to keep that one as is. That’s because that contains all the assets for the textures and buildings, so if you remove them at the absence of internet connection where the sim can’t stream the data into your PC, the sim will render a void space with nothing around you. So keep that one installed, while remove everything else.

I’ve actually been only using the Mandatory content and the ones that I can’t remove for over a year now. Everything else I only install them when I need, and remove them once I’m done.

You don’t have to install Asobo A320 to install the World Updates.. You will need them if you want to install the “entire” world update package, which also have extra things like discovery flight, landing challenges, etc. If you just want the photogrammetry and mesh update, you can just open the World update package, and manually install just the one you need, without the other stuff that requires the aircraft installation. I’ve also been doing this method for over a year now.

The World updates of Spain and Italy were greyed out on the Marketplace without this content. The aircraft were listed there as prerequisites. It was no problem to get the updates in the content manager.

really? not even when you open the package into a list to install just the individual sub-contents?

I never knew that was a thing until now, that list button is like magical.

I’m sure most of us have been blindly assuming we need all the things and having the things wasn’t hurting our game performance if we weren’t using them.

sorry I’m not sure what you mean… I have a feeling we’re talking about different things.

When the World Update of Spain was released, we had to “purchase” it in the Marketplace. For free of course, but the process is the same. This very process, the blue buy and install button was greyed out and on the left side just below the title of the update I was told in small red letters that there were prerequisites to install the updates. Below that was the list of some of the default aircraft I had uninstalled, not all for some reasons. I frowned and went to the content manager, installed them and then I could download the World Update.
When Italy came out the same thing happened again, this time it was the Pitts and the Hornet which had still been missing.

I am aware that the topic has been solved and I think this is really material for another topic. I just wanted to explain the situation. =)

Ahh I see, so you were talking about the process of claiming the content from the marketplace, I thought we were talking about the process of downloading the content itself.

For that, I do remember that it was also greyed out for me. But it was only one of the option. When we “purchase” it from the marketplace. there’s usually two options to choose from. “Get & Download”, and just “Get”. The “Get & Download” option was greyed out for me. And you were right, there’s a text showing that I require to have the default A320 installed, which I didn’t have.

But the “Get” Button has always been active for me. So even if I don’t have the default A320 installed, I can just press the GET button, and it’s now unlocked for my account. Then if I want to install the specific content like I said in my previous post. I just go back to the content manager, click the List button to open all the packaged contents into individual sub-contents, and just install the one from the World Update Spain and Italy that I want that doesn’t require the default A320.

Additionally, even when you’re on the packaged view, clicking the packaged content and pressing the ! icon on that entry, will open the specific sub-contents inside that package. So if you click the ! icon next to World Update Spain for example, it will show all the sub-contents that you can install within that world update package. So you can just choose the one you want install, and go back out.

Hehe.. I’m a curious person by nature… I’m always exploring things and try clicking things here and there to see what happen and what they do. That’s how I found it, and I’ve been using that button since over a year ago to pick and choose the specific content that I want installed without the extra useless contents.

I’ll have a look at the ! and will need to try what you said with the next WU. I believe both were greyed out, but I could be wrong now. Thank you!
