Asobo Weather Radar is a square peg in a round hole .

The weather radar is basically useless . . .

Guess they did not get people to review the implementation before releasing, maybe someone that knows how it works!!! Maybe good idea for future features, the community has a few real-life type rated pilots that could test, sure if asked they would love to assist.

Gosh I hope they implement an actual Weather Radar based on altitudes! Cause weather is different at different altitudes…

Don’t hold your breath! It’s taken two years to get the cloud levels (nearly) correct!

That said, of course it may open up the sim to be able to implement level-related weather radar. Not a programmer so I have no idea.

In the mean time thunderstorms are so rare in the game, and can clouds appear where they are not supposed to be….the weather radar and the world map are useless altogether with the current state of live weather….again…for me? A only weather update is what we need with the option to use just meteoblue live weather, and whoever wants to use METAR can still do so…but if they had their wish granted why should we not when it comes to have a toggle for ON/OF METAR data??

It was mentioned in yesterdays Dev Q & A on twitch that they are working on these areas.

I only heard the talking about more data for snow cover but nothing else?

There was a part where they talked about the weather radar and getting some 3D info from Meteoblue.

That is why I always stress that they should not lock down the weather portion of the sim. We can get so many third-party developers who work on weather to get it in a better state way faster than Asobo since Asobo has many other things to worry about. Active Sky is more than willing to create something for MSFS to help improve it but are limited right now because of the lack of an SDK for the weather portion. REX is also more than willing to create products for weather as you can see, they have a couple out but take shortcuts to get it to somewhat work.

I get that maybe it is because of the partnership Microsoft and Asobo have with Meteoblue, but they need to do something to be able to open up the weather system. Whether that means renegotiating the contract for the partnership or breaking it off, it is going to take Asobo a while to get it somewhat “right”. By opening up the weather system it will give aircraft developers access to the weather to build a proper weather radar.
